Interior Lights

Featured Replies

How easy it is to fit new interior lights? Do I just pull on the plastic fittings?

Do you mean the bulbs (lamps) or the actual unit?

The overhead map light cover will just pull off from the front (ie front of the car, pull down), but the actual unit is fixed in place iirc.

Depends if you have the interior light with the 2 map lights in but fitting is the same.

Removing the fitting:

Pull the clear cover down, remove the two black philips screws in the middle of the fitting(well one either side of the middle holding it to the roof) with the two screws removed the fitting should unclip from the roof lining, unclip the mutli-plug and its out.

Changing bulbs is simple for them, either two 501 bulbs which are the same as side lighs, simple push fit.

The middle one is the same as the reg one but a different size. 2 metal prongs, one at each side, pull apart slightly, fit new bulb in one side and push up into the other side.

Very very easy basic job, 3 minutes max if your fitting led ones that only work one way!

remove the two black philips screws and it should then unclip off.

Never had these on mine, I could get into the 3 lamp cluster

with just my fingers. No tools reqd at all...

Sorry i might not have made it that clear, the two screws should only be removed if you are changing the full light fitting not just the bulbs(lamps)

If your only changing the bulbs no tools should be required and as you say the plastic cover will simply pull down with just your fingers

I mean the lights that come on inside the car when opened. I bought some LED lights I want to replace with the boring old ones.

On my mates car he simply just pulls the unit and it comes out, my question was do I do the same.

The clear plastic cover on the interior light simply unclips.

Thanks.

I am assuming I can just pull the light fitting from the ceiling interior?

Not the entire light, the clear cover pops off and the grey light stays in the roof.

Oh right.. How different it is to the polo then. you can actually take the whole lot off on the polo and it exposes the metal roof. You then change the bulbs and place it back in the hole.

Well you could...but it involves unscrewing the unit from the ceiling.

You'd have to remove the cover anyway to get to the screw.

Just pop the cover off, it's easy.
