More about the pikey mod

Featured Replies

i know this pikey mod has been discused alot, and i know people chop the audi tt vent out of the wheel arch, and fit it to the vrs's but has any one tried the ibiza wheel arch with the same vent in all ready. i understand from another thread the arch was said not to fit, but only third hand by another thread on seat.net. has any one actually had a go yet, either fitting the whole thing, or cutting the vent out, as it would probably fit better as there have been issues with the tt vent not wanting to bend to fit the vrs. also does the vw polo have this vent in, on some of there models, as the fabia vrs is based on the polo, and would most probably have a similar, or same arch. what do you guys think??????

The TT vent will bend to shape nicely if heated with a hairdryer - or heat gun if you like to live dangerously!

Everyone knows that Pikey's don't mod their motors. :P

:rotz: Another urban myth bites the dust.....

I checked into the Ibiza one since it's the same platform at the Fabia & same front end so yes I think it would be very similar, the best thing to do is buy it, take your arch liner off and put them together, if it doesnt fit take it back and say you didnt need it after all and get a refund, with the money but the TT vent or the S3 one which apparently larger than the TT one!!

Surely the Ibiza one will fit?

IIRC, the TT one is larger, so thats why people have opted for that route.

If the Seat one doesn't fit, you can always chop the vent out "a la TT", so nothing to lose!

I'm failing to see how the TT vent is larger? (see pics).

-And why would one trade the Ibiza vent in for the TT when the cost is about the same (

Does the S3 wheel arch liner with the vent already in it go straight into an Octy vRS or would it need to be cut about too?

Go to B & Q and buy an aluminium vent for

What do people think of this one:

Ugly, but as long as it works...................................

You mean like this? ;):D

Yep  ,

Nice and easy......oh and cheap.

what benefit does these vents give??

what benefit does these vents give??

Lets the intercooler disappate heat faster and in turn reduces heat soak under hard acceleration. I have also noticed the car running better in warm weather.

I'm definitely considering the tweak - I hate smoking diesels and changes are it will reduce that too :D (under those conditions)

Oddly (maybe a placebo affect) but my car seems to smoke more after I put the TT vent on

Yeah I was actually thinkin about that...what Mike is thinkin...how do they help?

Actually...they do help.....put it like this....drivin in your car..windows shut....open the driver window slightly...air seeps in...but not enough....open it fully...much more comes in but it doesn't seem to keep you cool...open the passenger window, and it ultimately cools you down inside the car....

Same applies to the IC i guess...front vents, air passes thru, but not enough...rear vents created, cooling effect increased by over 50%...

Ta Da!!!

The cheapest way to do it is free by just cutting some slices in there ;)

My idea is to get a fan pulling air out of the engine compartment blowing it over the tyre, same place as the vent.

Only catch is I'm not sure if I can fit (a bracket) to the intercooler. Hard to say.

Might harm the resale value a bit though ;)

Chris

where abouts is the intercooler on a furby?

behind from drivers side fog light

Got the mine waiting for me at the local audi dealership. I will try and fit it this weekend if the weather allows. If not it will be one of my many jobs that I will put off for awhile

I wouldn't try to fit anything directly to the intercooler - it's pressurised, remember.

Looks like there are at least four mounting points you could use (circled). A bit of sculpting with some B&Q aluminium angle should work.

Or you could mount it to the inside of the wheel arch liner, but that would be less efficient.
