Hi guys,

Pulled into a garage with a stupidly raised drain cover and heard a really loud bang!, thought the worse and drove 100 yards or so to see a small.puddle left behind and lines of oil, shut the car down and left it, hopefully it isn't stolen tomorrow :(

I think it's the sump but couldn't see, does anyone know if they are easy to fit and how long?

Also where can I get a good second hand one from?

Is the car okay being towed and where is the tow point?

Can anyone recommend a good garage in Gateshead?

Get back to that garage take a few photos of offending raised drain-cover, with a small ruler to determine it's exact height from ground level.

After you checked what damage has been done, complain to owner and show photos (copies only) and request compensation/ effective repair.

Take a witness/ pocket recorder to record any conversation for later proof.

Quite an easy job aslonf as the exhaust comes off. Never changed a vrs one though.

I used to work at the peugeot clinic in gateshead. Brilliant garage, used to work on various cars but ovbs a peugeot & citroen specialist.

Gateshead also has one the of the largest vag breakers around with pretty much every vag you can imagine, vee-dubs. They had a couple ibiza fr's and fabia vrs's so could get a second hand one from there.

In my experience Vee-Dubs is pretty expensive... I rang the other day and they wanted £180 for a set of 4 steel wheels....

I'm pretty sure they'll be able to sort you out with a new sump though.

Firstly, I have never changed a sump on a Fabia VRS.

There are specialist welders that can weld alloy, for a possible repair in situ, after just draining engine oil.

But, when I have been crawling around underneath I have noticed that the sump bolts look very get- at- able.

You would probably need a full sump gasket set, to begin with and, with a new sump would be an opportunity to renew engine oil + oil filter.

Sump is easy to replace all bolts are straight forward to get to easy job with car raised last alloy sump i got for a 130pd bora was £90 ish inc vat so ring and see what a new 1 would cost first
