ECU LIGHT SKODA OCTAVIA 2.0 FSI

Featured Replies

Hello. I've got a Skoda Octavia 2.0 FSI 2005. Over the last couple of months I've had issues with the ECU light coming on. It's been in and out of garages for scans and various fixes none of which have worked. The faults shown are: Radiator fan 2 sluggish/blocked, Camshaft timing advance (bank1) target value not attained. I have had a new camshaft sensor put in, an engine coolant temp switch and the latest was a new solenoid valve. The thing is the car was driving fine up until the solenoid valve was replaced and now the car has a judder when stationary although there is no movement on the rev counter. Has anyone had similar issues ? and if so what was the fault ? The light has now come back on , although gone out again. Its due back into the main dealers at the end of the week but after recent experiences I'm expecting it to show the same faults. Any advice or thoughts appreciated.

Is the car standard? Has the ecu ever been removed and opened? Has the ecu loom been checked? It could be water ingress?

Donovan, the car is standard however it had a new ECU fitted three years ago. I'm fairly sure the ECU loom hasn't been checked. Is that something they should be doing routinely with a car with these symptons? If not I will request it when it goes in later in the week.

Thanks

Why was ecu replaced in first place? Yes loom should be checked. Again you can get all kind of faults when ecu or wiring is shorting out.

Another thing get some one with vcds to scan car. And post up full scan here

Donovan. Within days of buying the car from a dealers it began cutting out and running badly. I returned it and after having it for a few days they decided it needed a new ECU. This was done under warranty but didn't fix the problem and it turned out to be the catalytic converters. So in short the original ECU was probably not faulty.Lucky it was under warranty. Is vcds what the dealers use ?

How was it the catalyst? Or was it a O2 sensor. Where you located get someone near you to scan car. See if there are any power fault codes such as terminal 30 ect. Maybe they never replaced ecu and instead did software update.

If you're handy with tools take a look at ecu and wiring your self. It's fairly easy to get to.

Remove wiper blades then remove black shuttle panel under widow and rubber. The shuttle panel is just clicked in along window when off just discount windows washer pipe. And take a look at ecu. The ecu should be in a cage look for signs of damage to ecu silver casing or wiring loom. Also see if there's any water around ecu or loom

Donovan. They definately replaced the ECU as I got a copy of the invoice and remember thinking I was glad I didn't have to pay it. Regarding the catalytic converters, apparently the car had probably had a mis fire for a while when the previous owner had it. This caused something (which I can't remember what it was) to break and then pieces of that ended in the catalytic converter braking it. I'm Watford way so will find vcds and post the results of it. Oh and I will take a look and see if there is anything obvious with the ECU. Cheers for your help
