Stop me from selling up!

Featured Replies

Hi all

Only had my fabia for a short time since August and I really loved it when I got it

Spent a fortune in it since adding bits and sorting things like clutch and flywheel etc

The only thing that's getting to me at the minute is something clutch related!

My issue is that since I've had my new clutch in which a dual friction... It's like a hybrid. One side is like a 6 paddle and the other side is like a normal clutch

Basically since I've had it done its started to play up... When sitting in 1st at lights it seems the biting point changes and sometimes the car even begins to roll forward like an auto! I feel a slight jolt and the car seems to lock itself in 1st and its hard to get back into neutral

Everything has been fitted correctly do the only thing that wasn't changed was the master cylinder, put a new one in last week and its still doing it!

It's really really annoying me now as I just want the car to drive like it did before I changed it

It's fine in every other gear but its just irritating having to sit in neutral at lights in case it does it

If anyone can help me I would appreciate it so much

Really sorry for the rant but if I can't find help here then all hope is lost :(

Which clutch is it you've got fitted?

It's a dual friction clutch

I don't want to say where it's from at the moment as I don't want to spoil reputations etc

Just get a normal clutch or a slightly upgraded one maybe?

What sort of bhp and torque you running?

This is an uprated clutch

I'm running around 170bhp and 300 lb/ft

This clutch is rated higher so can handle it

I've just forked out loads on the clutch and flywheel 2 months ago so I don't really want to have to buy another clutch :(

whats the make etc?

Ok I'm going to have to say...

It's a CG Motorsport clutch

i wouldnt blame the company just yet....be different if it was technicluth. if it is the clutch or flywheel problem surely in 2 months there should be some kind of warrenty? im not massivly clued up on clutches and all but i would say the best option is to talk to cg themself and tell them whats the problem as they seem pretty handy on here.

Wasnt your car the test mule for this clutch IIRC? Surely they should look after you if that's the case :)

Yes that's right and in fairness they've been pretty good

But they told me it has to be a hydraulic issue and nothing to do with the clutch

I was advised to change the master cylinder as that's the only other thing it could be but the problem remains

They've offered for me to go back to them (I've already been once) and they will look and if its not an issue with the clutch I will be charged accordingly

It's just a pain as Leeds is a fair old trot for me to go for the second time

Well if it's only happened since the clutch change then it must be related to that, I would go back to them mate and see what they say.

Ask them to fit a other one, if it still does it then its not the clutch/ flywheel if it stops then you have your problem :)

My opinion take it back and state your claim / complaints then once thy give you a reply tell them "NO" and ask to have it looked at ... But don't get rid as you won't get your money back and there's nothing like embarrassing standard performance cars through the first 3/4 gears :)

I'm on standard clutch not mapped and mine does what you described at lights. Learnt to pop it in neutral before coming to a complete stop

Mind you it's on 110k now and think its still original

I can't make it fella cos I study at college on a Thursday towards my accountancy qualifications

Hi guys, we have been looking after Simmo with his clutch but we cant seem to put our finger on what is causing the issue he is experiencing, we have sold quite a lot of these across the VAG range and this is the first we have experienced this with.

I like to think I work for a really good company who look after their customers and I think we have done our best for Simmo so far. If its a clutch issue we are going to look after him and replace it for whatever he needs, however frequently our clutches are incorrectly fitted by mechanics who have very limited experience with clutches.

I'm not going to slate anyone workmanship but our mechanics only deal in clutches and fit over 500 a year so we are the experts. What we have found over the years is that a lot of people have mechanics with 20, 30 or even 40 years experience but realistically have only fit half a dozen clutches a year in that time and have not evolved with the changes in clutch assembly that have occurred since the simpler days of the Ford Escort.

The clutch world is a complex one so just be warned that having a mate fit your clutch for £50 on his back on a Sunday afternoon may not be the great deal it seems to be. I'm in no way saying this is what Simmo has done this just wanted to make a point whilst on the subject.

I hope we can get Simmo sorted out as we are a company that puts our customers first and we want to build a reputation with you guys that reflects that.

I just want to say a big thanks to Andy and Mick at CG

I hope that nothing had been taken personally in this thread as this really wasn't my intention

As said previously CG are looking after me and I will be over in the near future to hopefully get the issue sorted

So the verdict is...

I'm not selling up! :) :)

Sorry to bring up an aging thread...

Did you get to the bottom of this? The biting point dropping to the floor and rollin the car forward is really starting to tick me off wondered if you had a solution?

Are you running a CG clutch too?

No standard but had exactly the same as what you described wondered what the treatment was

Just wanted to know if it was associated with just CG clutches as they are very tempting :)

i have a similar problem when engaging first with clutch in its like a pull forward type feel. and is a nightmare first and reverse

I'm going back to CG for them to sort it out for me

I've been told it could well be a faulty slave cylinder letting a bit of air in?

Fair play to CG they've looked after me and told me I can go back whenever and Mick is a top bloke and knows his stuff
