Funny Noise coming from o/s front wheel when on left lock!

Featured Replies

I've just noticed a funny sort of grinding/tinkling noise coming from (what appears to be) behind the o/s front wheel when I turn left. It's intermittent so it's hard to know what it is. I only noticed it the other day because the radio wasn't on. My first thoughts were brake related (maybe the caliper) but now i'm not sure.

I know it's not a lot to go on but has anyone got any ideas?

maybe have a look at your drop-links, then check for any play in the front bearings.

Ok Thanks. At least i'll be able to point my mechanic in the right direction

Outer CV joint, these can make a sort of clicking noise when they are on the way out and it would make sense to for the off side one to make a noise under load (i.e. when you turn left).

OK thanks for that!

If it is the outer CV and it disintegrates you can have a very nasty accident. I had a nearside let go on a Jetta and it almost took me in the ditch. If the O/S goes it could lead to a head on collision.

Now you're worrying me!

If your car is lowered and on standard drop links check for the ARB rubbing on the drive shaft!!

my cv joint has just started to go, makes a grinding type of rotating noise! 37.80 from ECP for the kit (Y)

Could be the Brake backing plate catching on the disc
