Planning a trade in for Spring 2013, had an offer, comments & advice welcomed.

Hi all,

I've had my Red Monte Carlo (75) since July 2011, used as a driving instruction vehicle, only had one light scrape on a wheel arch which can be resprayed for £150, red interior (like new), alloys kerbed numerous times, spare wheel, climate and cruise extras (showrrom model) and 30k on the clock. I'm looking at trading in March 2013 for the new reg, will have 40k on by then I expect.

I'm going for a white Monte Carlo (75) next time I think, I've considered SE, Elegance and Greenline but the Monte looks win I think, not much in price and economy. I won't bother with any upgrades I doubt, only possibility of Amundsen as I use TomTom as my speedo at the moment.

Current 0% VAT offer expires January 2nd I think, so a bit of pressure to order soon, any thoughts on this being extended again?

I'm also undecided whether to hold on to my current car for another year or two but know the Monte is due to be discontinued and don't want to wait and be disappointed, I need help to decide!!

Also read about this supposed discontinuation of the Monte but a reliable dealer contact is unaware of it :wonder:

Re options, then the first option on my list if not standard is ESP, have this with the Plus pack on ours, saved the bacon a couple of times in the past, avoiding other drivers poor road craft skills shall we say.

TP

If you want it and you feel like you have a good deal, do it. Don't wait around if you think you might get disappointed. Failing all else, ask your local dealer when they are taking last orders on the Montes and see if their eyebrows rise in shock...then you'll know!

Interesting that you use your TomTom as a speedo given that it is heavily dependent on how many satellites it's picking up as to how accurate it is. Not especially reliable, unless you know something I don't?!

The dealer didn't know of a date for discontinuing the Monte, he clearly doesn't read this forum and keep up to date! Regarding the SatNav, I should have clarified I use it as my speedo when instructing! I don't depend on it, I've got a good sense of speed but use it to avoiding any possibility of accusations looking 'over' a pupil if you know what I mean, I can just glance at TomTom, it's usually a couple of mph lower than the speedo, if I had Maxidot in the Monte like my vRS I just look at the kph and convert :-)

EDIT: Can't seem to edit my original post but, just looking around the Skoda website, I see the Elegance is on 0% VAT and 0% finance, that is now looking favourable, I know it doesn't have the black arches and wheels but it will have extras over the standard Monte and work out cheaper.

Decisions, decisions!

That's awfully good value at 0% all round. All depends on how much you want to have the look over the gizmos really!

I see what you mean on the nav. Although my maths isn't quite quick enough when it comes to converting kph!

I should add that when asked, the dealer said he couldn't really give me a trade in value as it wasn't listed yet, after a bit of nosing around in Glass's guide, he came up with £8500, anyone care to say if thats reasonable for a 30k car? I thought a tad low for a £14,500 original price car, even with high mileage, but I don't know about the adjustments for things like that.

Sounds good to me, if you go on the forecourt price. Cannot find an 11 plate Monte TDI on Autotrader but a 12 plate TDI 75 can be had for 10.5k with less miles.

Oh Parker Guide suggests £8,880 with 20k on the clock; Fabia's are not renowned for holding strong residuals in there first two or three years. My lad earlier this year paid a main dealer 50% of the original RRP for a 2009/59 Fabia 1 HTP 12v with average miles; dread to think what the original owner lost :wonder:

Sounds a bit low but to be honest they do suffer a bit on depreciation because of the VAT free offers on new ones. You can probably squeeze an additional £500 out of it if you're extra persuasive with the dealer. Get a couple of dealers to give you a value though. I've found most will give you a value via email if you give enough info on the car as lets be fair none of them use their own initiative on valuing cars anymore and they all rely on online tools.

You may find someone willing to give you more because there won't be a huge number available as used just yet. Autotrader usually gives a reasonable guide on what you can expect to see it on a forecourt for, a brief glance tells me that most have got significantly lower mileage than yours and bottom end start at about £10500. I'd probably be looking for just over 9k on p/x if I was you, but you'll have to find the right dealer!

The Plumber beat me to it :wall:

Thanks Peter B and The Plumber, I'd just spotted that price on Parkers myself and thought that my offer was actually very good, I think I can probably get it up to £8,880 if I push, this will be the third car in 18 months I've bought from there so a loyalty bonus is due!!

Thanks again for your help :-)

With that mileage and the condition you state (not horrendous, but enough to have the dealer factor in "extra work"), that seems a good offer.

It's Px don't forget, the VAT offer isn't literally VAT free, just equivalent, so your car loses VAT straight away. The £14.5k would reduce under VAT free to about £12k, then to £11k as soon as it becomes yours.

Add in a couple of years old, 30k miles...they'll stick the boot in.

As you say though, you have a history with them, you know what the repairs cost (not much to them in reality, as the YTS trainee will do it for min. wage) and you're buying from them.

I am thinking of chopping mine in at a year old, so looked to Autotrader for a guide and was surprised how many "Nearly New" Montes there were listed!

Just a quick query to check, is the 0%VAT off the OTR price or before OTR cost is added please? Only ask as I've been quoted £12,300 for a Monte (75 diesel) with climate control option.

Online list price shows for a standard car, I think he's added climate (with no VAT) to the OTR price, then subtracted the VAT of the total price, is this correct, anyone arrive at any different figures?

£11,508.33 £2,301.67 9E £14,375.00

I was told the discount is the one listed in the brochure as the VAT content of the list price...
