Please help me diagnose this noise!

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

Please can you listen to the audio clip below (15 seconds) and diagnose the rattle. It's heard when traveling over anything but smooth road.

I've had both the prone to failing front bushes replaced and drop links, neither of which have cured the rattle. The garage isn't sure what to replace next and have said there's nothing obviously loose such as an exhaust bracket or under tray. I'm taking the car abroad soon and want to get the noise identified and sorted just incase!

Any suggestions welcome...

Many thanks

My wifes Roomster had a similar rattle - turned out to be a badly adjusted rear light that was just barely touching the boot door and it was actually the creaking noise generated between the two items rubbing against each other over rough roads.

Thanks bgw. I've just had a look but doesn't appear to be anything wrong in the rear light area. The noise is coming from mid-front O/S.

Are you lowered? If so how much?

Sounds to me like ARB or a top mount is loose.

A member had a similar problem some Months ago, someone suggested adjusting the rubber bonnet stops at the front outer edges to stop the bonnet from flexing or moving, worth a try, it could be the problem.

DB.

+1 for the bonnet rubbers, might not be that rattle but when i bought my fabia it used to rattle, only when i pushed the bonnet it went away.

Adjusted the rubbers up and it went away.

I had a similar sort of sound. Couldn't hear it on smooth roads but could on most other roads, and even more so when driving slow or over speed bumps. The noise stopped after I replaced front top mounts and bearings.

Check ARB bush clamps are tight - mine worked loose after a few thousand miles after ARB bushes put in. Good luck!

Thanks for all the suggestions! Going to give them all a go. Hopefully one of them is the culprit!

Just to add, car is totally standard but on 130k!

I'll let you know how I get on, it may help someone in the future :)
