Front strut brace

Featured Replies

lol guys ive forgot..... Do u drill and put brace on when car is in the air ?

Or is it just purely cos it makes it easier to get to the bolts when its in the air ?

I'd drill it with the car sitting on its wheels so the struts are in their natural position

both good points, mark off when on ground, raise to fit bolts as when sat on wheels is a PITA

No fit it when in the air that way you pull strut under tension so the strut bar actually doing its job !!!

By doing it on the floor the strut brace will be doing nothing

The brace is to try to reduce flexing when you're driving not to locate things. You want the struts to stay exactly where they are when the car is stationary rather than stressing them the opposite way before you move.

Why do you guys raise the car up and bolt from under???

Just use Riv nuts? :wonder:

I fitted mine with the car on its road wheels in my garage and used a long socket extension bar to offer up the bolts/washers + plenty of sealing mastic through the pre drilled holes.

Not the easiest way but it worked:-

there is minimal to no movement when on the ground, real movement is under conering, once the brace is in place under cornering is where movement can occur without the bracing. Have removed mine on my golf a number of times, on and off the ground, and there is never any movement that makes the brace easier of more difficult to remove that i can tell.

Or just drill and tap the struts no nuts needed ;)
