New Works Phone - Which to Get?

Featured Replies

Help! I've got to decide on a new works phone.

My criteria is:

Has to have a great camera and do panoramas

Has to work well as a phone.

Has to be good at email and get shared mailboxes

Would be nice to have VPN capability but not a must

Has to have good web browsing

Has to have a good battery life (I will turn roaming off when I dont need it)

My available choices are:

HTC 8S; Samsung Galaxy SII; HTC One X; HTC 8X; Nokia Lumia 920; Samsung Galaxyy SIII; Apple iPhone 5; SS Galaxy Note 2

I really like the Nokia 920 - but it's HUGE! Fantastic screen and camera though. Doesnt VPN

I really like the iPhone 5 - because the IT dept support it well and it does what I want - BUT it's an Apple.

Any ideas? Need to know by Thurs morning 13th Dec.

Thanks

Nick

so you wouldn't get a particular phone that you really like, is well supported and does what you need because of the brand? idiot

Have a look at the Motorola Razr I. Just got one for my boy and when we took it off the charger Saturday at 1 pm it was still waiting to be connected. Had a play with it for an hour. Downloaded some stuff on wifi. Set up his email and google stuff. It finally activated yesterday morning and today it finally dropped below 50% battery :D. I know that once it is in full use it will be less but I think that compared to my iPhone 4 that can't last 8 hour without charging it is feckin awesome. 4 days and counting :D

It actually quite quick and nice to hold as well, but the battery life is epic

you didnt say Galaxy Note II

HTC X One, gerat phone and I think can do all you are asking of it.

I am supprised that your IT section support the Apple as we have major problems supporting them as they are so tied into iTunes

John

The HTC 8x is mean to be good

The s3 is the best phone I've ever had, quite simply stunning. Several iphone owning colleagues have also switched to the s3

Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2

I have a Galaxy Note mk1 and its pretty good. Massive screen and fantastic bit of tech. But, it has niggly faults..crashes..email. But its android so mostly fixable. I like the look of the note 2.

i use the htc one x + which has a faster cpu, more storage (64gb) and much better battery the the one x

when i compare it to a mates S3 i prefer the htc and the battery does seem to last longer than his

apart from orange swappables not working (another story) its a great phone, especially the battery life

My Dad has just got the HTC 8x - new windows 8 phone - and loves it. However early reports from him are that the battery life is terrible! As in really bad!

The iPhone can only do a single mailbox off an Exchange server (natively anyway) so that would seem to rule that out if you need access to shared mailboxes too.

Thanks for all the input guys. Seems like every one has their own favourites

In the interests of the easiest choice I seem to have gone for the ubiquitous iPhone 5 32GB. It seems the most logical choice for less fuss and most support from the IT guys. I don't usually like being a sheep and going with the flock and I'm not fussed with Apple products (yes, my wife has a Mac at home - I have a PC) due to their upgrade/obsolescence policies where they hold you to ransom and force you to pay handsomely to buy new stuff when older stuff is no longer supported.

If it was my money I was spending I might have chosen differently. I really do like the Nokia 920 but it's just that little too BIG. Lets hope the phone dept. can process this before the end of next week so I get a new toy for Crimbo :)

I'm quite surprised that you are given a choice, to be honest.

Most companies tell you what you are getting.

The Razr I finally shut down this morning :D

I get to pick - but then I'm one of the IT guys that test them! Thinking of trying one of the new Windows 8 phones so will need to get a few in to try first - see which I like and if it works OK with the car.

As I am not management with their poncy smartphones or blackberrys, they just provide me with a sim (no data allowance), and I provide my own handset :-( For the majority of the time I dial internal numbers via our standard site short-dial numbers, so if I keep the calls under an hour they aren't billed, which is handy :-)

I have 3 Exchange mailboxes on my totally standard non jailbroken iphone.

I have ten setup on mine??? All different exchange servers though so maybe that's why.

I suppose they could IMAP the shared mailbox?

It looks like that has been fixed in a later version of iOS and is no longer the case. Shows the last time I paid attention at work!

Get an iphone, & continue to support Android users getting the apps free

Not true, my iPhone 4 (iOS6.01) is currently having email pushed to it directly from two Exchange servers using the native mail app. They appear separately in the mailbox lists, and when you reply to an email it sends through the currently open exchange mailbox. Calendars, Contacts etc. all work perfectly syncing between each server.

Hi mannyo

Multiple servers multiple accounts has worked since ios4. I think the issues were around multiple accounts on the same exchange, however I have tested this today on iPad and it is possible to do multiple accounts on single exchange now......

Finally! iPhone 5 64GB arrived for me today! Now to start playing ;)

(well - working out how the hell it works and transferring my contacts from my Nokia E5 to it - any pointers?)

I must add that after having this phone for a month I'm kinda regretting it now. It does spend quite a bit of time being a very expensive, albeit a very pretty. paperweight. The connectivity of this phone is hopeless - even in areas of allegedly good signal, this phone fails to get it resulting in missed calls, no emails and major frustration when out on the road.

The camera is excellent though. Shame it's crap as a phone. Should have gone Nokia or Samsung I think. Oh well, only 23 more months of contract left to go.
