Seem to have bought a good car

Featured Replies

08/58 plate black estate. Drives like a new car, despite its 107k. Paid £4600 + £100 train and fuel costs. Needs minor service soon (£115) and will ask to replace gearbox oil, even though it feels perfect.

One fleet owner from new, full Skoda history. New tyres, brakes, battery, wipers, mot, timing belt, tensioner & water pump.

M-way drive home from Leeds to Edinburgh seems to have returned 60mpg (measured brim to brim) which very hard to believe. Drove at constant 60mph though to see what mpg possible.

Only a couple of quick turns of speed through gears to check no problems. Still on original Dmf & clutch, which feels great, so presuming previous driver had good vehicle empathy, and was on motorways mostly.

Delighted with the car so far. Insurance cheap, and tax at £135 annual seems cheap to me.

Sounds a good deal, which engine and trim level?

Sadly the Ambiente, but it is good enough.

Don't know engine code as V5 sent away

60mpg means it'll be the trusty 1.9 PD105 TDi

Yep, my thoughts when I saw the mpg. I would struggle to get that out of the pd140 unless I drove at 50 everywhere.

Nope its the 2.0 TD PD 140. Filled brim to brim 1st click. Maybe 1st click on refilling much sooner than first fill?. Will try again later to double check as car not moved since. Surprised me - wasn't expecting that, despite Motorway, 6th gear, and empathic driving.

Sorry folks - should have been clearer re 2.0.

Did put it in the Topic Tag, but that isn't very prominent next to post title

You can't see the tags on the mobile version of the site, same as you don't see signatures or avatars etc.

Thanks. All makes sense now !.

Was that 60mpg according to the trip computer (which tend to be 10% optimistic) or measured brim to brim?

If measured brim to brim that is pretty good, mine is normally mid 50s on a long run at a steady 70. If I slow down to 55 I can get over 60 but get bored and boot it after a while.

"brim to brim 1st click. Maybe 1st click on refilling much sooner than first fill?."

Was at 60+mph according to speedo, which more like 60mph real world I guess. Makes sense if you've had similar returns at granny speeds. A one off for me - just wanted to see what was possible at upper limit.

I'd be tempted to do a manual check when you get around to it, always nice to know what the real mpg is.

How? Brim to brim, 1st click is what I did already

Ok, I find another half gallon can be squeezed in after first click, but still impressive, shows the engine and cam timing are sweet.

Get it remained - big torque gains and it is more economical on a cruise :-)

That should have read remapped!

Get it remained

Understood !.

Considering, but my insurer not keen at present, so got to wait till policy finished.

Yeah, I check every tank on my car, just force of habit now!

Fill it up, reset the trip meter.

When you refill again note down the mileage and number of litres of fuel taken to refill and stab it in here...

Or fully.com

Fuelly.com - this spellchecker is really annoying.

My '07 PD140 estate (also Ambiente) returns c.58mpg at 65mph on a motorway run (750 miles to a tankful!).

And that's on 120,000!

Economy has been checked over quite a few thousand miles if driving and the display has been adjusted with VCDS to within less than 1mpg error (over reading).

Sounds like you got a good buy in yours. Enjoy.

Sounds like you've got yourself a good 'un there mate. I've had mine for just under 18 months now and I still smile every time I drive it. Mines a 1.9 (105) diesel and I often get late 50's mpg as my daily commute is mainly on motorways.

Good luck with it & all the best.

Thanks!. Was looking for the 1.9 as I like them a lot having driven a few, but in the end value for money, and what's available won through. Crazy prices being paid at present by traders trying to secure any stock they can.

Yorkshire auction of fleet vehicles was far more sensibly priced than Bedford, Derby, Glasgow, Edinburgh.

I get nothing like that on my 2litre l and k, 08 with 100k on it. Im wondering if it might be timing related, as I'm struggling to get mid 40s on a longer run. I'm going to insist on a fuel filter change at next service too, due next month.

Something wrong their mate, my L&K will pull low 60s if I drive like an old coffee :-)

Try running some Miller's diesel additive through as well as the fuel filter change. I change my fuel filter at every variable service.

Check for binding brakes as well.
