Coolant Light

Featured Replies

Whenever the temperature has dropped to about 1 degree or below and i start my Octavia (2007) from cold for the first time after about 20 seconds the coolant light comes on. The manual states that the coolant is at a high temperature or is low, none of these are the case. After i switch the engine off and restart 9 times out of 10 the coolant light doesnt come on again.

Anybody have any ideas of what is causing this or anybody else experiencing the same problem

Probably a faulty sensor.

Quite a few people have this issue. I know I used to on my PD. I just lived with it and as you say, re-start the engine and it goes out.

Might be worth trying to clean the sensor and bottle but when I looked onto it it was a sensor change.

Check the two metal prongs inside the coolant header tank.

Over time these can fur up which triggers the low coolant warning light.

Take a small flat ended screwdriver and give them a scrape to remove any deposits.

Its the level, it happens to me about every four months. When it has been sitting overnight and is stone cold top it up to the max as it will be too far below.

If its the red flashing light....

Then I also have the same problem, sometimes it won't come on or if it does come on, if I switch it off and then back on it might not come back on, it all depends if my vRs wants to p**s me off or not....which it has done quite successfully on several occasions in the last 6 months to the point of getting rid !

Well sorry about that little rant, but I didn't have the flashing temp light until last week when I had the hose that goes from the bottle to the front of the engine, so I don't know if something has been knocked or a wire come loose because I've never seen the light during the last 2 and half years since I've had the car.

I had to have this hose replaced because it was resting on the alternator and over a period of time, a small hole had been melted due to the heat from the alternator, and it was leaking...

So it might be a good idea for you guys to check ' said hose ' because if its leaking onto your alternator, there will be fireworks....

Then you have a leak!

There is another thread about this, I had the same problem gave the two prods in the expansion tank a clean with a tooth brush and the "fault" has not comeback

John

I have the same problem, I have changed the coolant bottle with the sensor in it and I am still getting it, the dash temp display always goes straight to 90 degrees and never fluctuates, any ideas??

Then you have a leak!

I relise that but unless it gets worse im not going to do anything about it as it's been like that since I bought it in Aug 11 and can stay like that until I get rid in Feb 14.

Hi there.

I looked at this thread as I seem to have the same problems as a few people before - namely the coolant warning light coming on intermittently when the temperature gauge is normal and the coolant level is fine.

As advised earlier here - I decided to see if the 'prongs' were gunged-up inside the expansion tank - but on opening the cap, there seems to be a small plastic resevoir inside the top section - with no access to the tank itself, and so no 'prongs' or anything else visible to clean.

Can anyone offfer advice on this please? ie : Will I need to replace the expansion tank itself, and if so, could I do it myself without draining the system? Also - is the 'sensor' mentioned the black plug-type thingy which fits into the back of the expansion tank? (Thought I'd try giving that a clean too, if that's the case).

I'm a not-very-technically-minded female by the way - but have had some very helpful and do-able advice from this forum in the past! (My car is a Fabia Classic 1.4 Estate 2002)

Many thanks
