Some q about antifreeze

Featured Replies

As tittle say I need to replace antifreeze because it past 2 years from last changing.

I know our cars use G12 but I have find out that there are two types.(G12 Plus and G12 Plus Plus).

I cant find out which I need and how much I need(1.5 L or more)?

If anyone know I would be very gratefull.

Cheers.

G12++ is the latest version and is fine to mix with G12+, at least according to TPS.

Hm, interesting...I heard that are "same", and there isnt much difrence except price. ;)

I still cant belive that capacity is 8.6 l???!

Can anyone confirm this?

8.6 sounds about right. IIRC dilution rate is suggested to be 40%, so you're looking at needing 4 litres.

I don't really see much below -5c here, so I work on a basis of 30% and have never had a problem.

40% antifreeze or destile water?

Last time when I had to change I have used 50%-50%, now Im not sure what to do.

And I forget to mention last time when I changed I didnt fluish it I just change antifreeze, know I want to do a proper job. ;)

In my country, especially in recent years winter are very strong and temperatures are about from -10 to -20 C...so I think it is necessarily to use mix 60% antifreeze and 40% destile water.

A 50% mix of G12 (including + or ++) with deionised or distilled water is fine for these temperatures. The V6 takes a lot of coolant - but then it's a big deadweight lump.

On any of these cars, take a small amount of coolant from the header tank at the beginning of the winter and put it in a domestic freezer for testing. At -18 degC it should remain liquid. This is all the testing required for UK Winter temperatures. SG testing is unreliable for this type of coolant unless you have the correct hydrometer. It's quicker and cheaper to put it in the freezer.

rotodiesel.

Good point rotodiesel Its hard to beat the old methods

You're going to be buying 4.5l (3 x 1.5l), so if you can get all the old coolant out, that's 52% or protection to -30°C. The minimum concentration is 40% and you can't get that with 2 x 1.5l bottles.

Hm, thats how I thought.

I wanted to buy 4 bottles, but thats to much.

Is it same procedure like changing/flushing antifreeze on Sups like on Passat/A4-A6?

Im very scared that I woudnt get all old antifreeze out. :(

And yes I almost forgot, I want to change brake fluids and steering wheel oil?

Is it hard? And do I need to get off all or just to pour more?

Tnx for answers so far. ;)

On one of the other posts, someone mentioned that the antifreeze is for life. Does it need to be changed then?

  • Author

Hmmm, also I heard that story...BUT, I changed every two years.

And I also heard that is healty on every five years complete flush...sincerely I never did complete flushing and changing coolant/antifreeze but I have decided to do it this year.

I dont think it is good not to change antifreeze for life, for too many reasons.

Yes. Officially it's called long life or extended long life. After about 4 years/50k miles it is dirty. If you drain it out and flush with water, you will find all sorts of crud settling out. Unless you've been topping up a lot, the freezing point is largely unaffected, but the anti-corrosion chemistry will be less effective.

Ok people, new problem. :(

In my country, isnt possible to find OEM coolant for Vag.

Can you recomended me some good aftermarket coolant, or is it all the same?

Pentosin and many other manufacturers make compatible coolant. Check your manual for the correct specification. It is likely to be TL774D or TL774F. You can also use coolant to TL774G

VW TL 774 D is G12

VW TL 774 F is G12+

VW TL 774 G is G12++

Hmmm but which is best?

Pentosin?

My car "love" G12+

Pentosin is trusted brand who have made compatible coolants for 20 years. BASF and Ravenol are also well known brands.

Ok tnx! I will try to find one of them.

Hey my friends, again I need some help.

I had managed to find some two bottles G12++(2x1.5l) and because I need one more, I ordered one botlle G13.

Audi servicer told me that it is compatible and G12++ and G13, with my car( in book say car need G12 + not mention G12++ or G13).

I've alredy ordered, and tomorrow will arive so there isnt much to do, but Im worried if that is true?

Will it be good for my car, or is better not to put that?

Tnx for answers. ;)

If your car specifies G12+, you can use and mix G12+, G12++ and G13

Today I had changed power steering fluid. Left me to change coolant(tommorow when arrive), and brake fluids.

I have bought PSF from Castrol but is red.

On other topic..take a look-http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/156855-power-steering-fluid/

I find out that should be green.

I drove around block and discover very much imrovence in driving.

Now I dont know what to think..is this red fluid good, or I need green one?

G 002 000 spec fluid must be used in the car and is sold by the dealer. Pentosin CHF 11S is the only aftermarket fluid that I know of.

I had a quick look at the Castrol website. The only one they list that MAY be compatible is Castrol CHF as it claims it can be used in place of Pentosin CHF 11S and is suitable for VAG cars.

If you don't use the correct fluid, the pump will become noisy and may fail.

Ok, I didnt much drove, maybe 0.5 mile(0.8 km) or maybe even less, with 2 corner, so I think it isnt very much affect pump...what do you think?

It didnt pass aproximately 30 minutes and I bought syringe(if word is correct-I used google translate), and pulled all 100 ml wich I've been pour.

So I'm interesting did I hurt pump or not? Color of that fluid when I poured was hmmm pretty much brown. I will buy tommorow OEM power steering fluids from VW because I bought this from Skoda dealer and I was fooled.

Anything else I need to do before I pour a new PS fluid?

Tnx sooo much for help.

You won't have done any damage in that short time. Check the PS fluid bottle to see if it mentions G 002 000 or CHF before you drain it out. What type of PS fluid did you put it?

I had put it-Castrol ATF TQ DIII(white bottle red stickers, and green cover).

And that bottle I have bought from oficially Skoda dealer in my country!

Im very angry, not so for money, it doesnt vrely metter, but because I could damage car... :(

Luckily I drain out fast, and I hope so it didnt damage at all.

How to know wich fluid I need to buy? Because I dont have VW dealer in my city and Im forced to order.

I heard that I need to lift of my car and turnirng steering wheel left right...and I dont know rest?
