FL and maxidot sorted

Featured Replies

Just a little project that I had on the go, to see if it was possible

The Car 2012 Octavia FL vRS 170 TDi CR

The cluster that i put in

Golf Mk6 Gti Petrol

I did discover the accountants at skoda didn't bother with a Brake pad wear sensor

now that I have done this it means that maxidot can be retrofitted

The maxidot and Gti cluster both use NEC chips

mileage correction is the easy part

...and '90mph' on the speedo too!!

So you've got a 2.0TFSI redline in a CR170 car? :)

I will be trying a new FL Maxidot cluster soon

  • 2 weeks later...

Would be keen to know how easy it is to fit oem maxidot to 2010 fl vrs, something I'd be very keen on.

any idea if the full colour maxidot from a VW can be retrofitted to FL octavias?

well it can be done, as the clusters above use the same immo type as a skoda

If you are looking for cluster at a breakers yard get the key, as that makes the swop a 10 min job

I have been thinking about this myself, not sure if the display can be swopped. The actual board is a different shape to the skoda board

Does this mean that you can set the millage and get the immob login from a second hand Maxidot cluster ?

So that it can then be coded using VCDS ?

You can use a second hand cluster, the gti cluster in the first video was one I bought from ebay.

It makes the job a lot easier to get the key with the cluster

It can also be done without a key, but requires attaching a clip to the eeprom chip

Immo data and mileage can be transferred

VCDS won't be able to do it

Sorry not making myself clear - can you prep a secondhand cluster so that it could be coded by VCDS, ie extract the login code for the secondhand cluster ?

You can't do any cluster adaptions with vcds

Even if you buy a new one, dealer would use Geko (internet connection to factory server) to install

Just had a maxidot retrofitted and had to go that route as, although it was a brand new cluster, the immobiliser refused to accept it

Yes that is because you can no longer get hold of the security pin for the immoboliser in a cluster, VCDS has the ability to do it, but you can't get hold of the pin codes these days as it is done securely with a connection to the factory.

So my question is can you read the security pin from a cluster ?

http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Immobilizer

There are tools out there to convert the 4 digit pin to a 7 digit once for VCDS.

I can read the pin

Vcds can't do it, the Immo type in the FL is type 5

I know someone else who can do it but uses a Tagtool add-on and the same equipment as me

Ah the explains it so the FL is Immo 5 - all becomes clear now - thanks for your patience :sun:

My old 99 GTi had to original rub off PIN with the keys - I could do what every I wanted.

So Eddie where in the UK are you then ?

Remember try and get a working key if they are 2nd hand, makes the job easy

Lovely job Eddie. How much are the clusters if you don't mind me asking?

Nice job,, do you have the ability to install a maxidot in a pre-facelift vrs,, i have the pod(secondhand..)

i think they can be done, i have done several mk5 golf which is the same.

what year is the donor pod from?

  • Author

you can mix them as I do them differently

in my videos, I have Petrol clusters in my Vrs CR Tdi

and when I had my golf here is a petrol

it is also possible to fit a FL cluster to a pre-facelift (I can't do it as I don't have the Tag-tool add-on)

Hi eddie,, pod is from an 2007 vrs tdi,, mine is a 2008,, so same pod i believe..

I think it should be ok, although the donor pod may need to be decoded.
