Does your wife drive like this?

I love it how we all think we are great drivers and love to give our words of wisdom to other fellow inferior drivers lol.

  • Yes. SWMBO is an appalling driver. I regularly have to shut my eyes to block out what she's doing. But normally she issues a constant stream of questions about what's going on on the road. Some are rh

I know what you mean, but I don't think anyone is claiming to be perfect (well, I hope not as that's just as dangerous as being oblivious to the road) but there are definitely people who drive in a safer, more aware manner than others.

One example that springs to mind is a friend of mine who was driving us down a 50mph road. She was so intent on telling me her story that she didn't even notice that her speed had dropped from 50 (the limit) to 30, and the cars behind were getting quite annoyed. She'd then notice, speed up, then it would happen again.

Not that it's illegal to drive below the limit, it was more the fact that her concentration was so clearly on talking rather than driving that I found quite scary.

None of us are perfect, I've done silly things with the best of them, but I'm acutely aware of it after and will try to learn from it.

I am not perfect, nobody is. I try to be diligent and safe and expect others to anticipate hazards and drive to the conditions. I am aware that many persons do not share an interest in cars and expect them to never break down require no oil or maintenance and be oblivious to other users and rules of the road. It's not words of wisdom, merely sharing a consensus amongst other persons with a common interest.

Mine can't for medical reasons, but if she could, I'd encourage her to go to

Even us blokes can be rubbish drivers.

Thanks for taking the time to jot this down, made me really giggle! The fuhrer always says " shall I drive " I'd rather sit in a pub with a coke with all my mates getting on it than be a passenger in the G reg mx5, which might I add is a stinking heap of s@?t that leaks at any hint of the wet stuff, oh and I'm 6'2 17 stone. So all in all a real comfortable ride-not!

I know a man who knows a good consultant cardiologist if it helps :)

Has he got a mate that's a barrister, I might need one

Littleade, if I was you, I would be spending £125 on her Xmas present.

I'd be buying her one of these...

By the way, Happy Xmas. I hope you make it in one piece.

My wife is originally from Cornwall where they wear the trousers. She's also a teacher and executive editor of the encyclopedia britannica so no one can tell her anything (the bit about britannica is a fib...)

My wife's a million times better than that - I trained her well!... but my mum... she's about on par with the above!

Soft answer 99% of drivers are a million times better than my wife, most people who fail their tests are too.

Keeping shtum is a well established practice - saved a lot of men aroundthe world :D

Defending women drivers for a moment I found Sabine Smitz pretty handy behind the wheel of her M5 taxi a couple of years ago.

Totally agree with this- that lap round neuremburg in a transit was epic. Unfortunatly she's one gifted lady amongst miilions of *****. My wife drives the school minibus and often hits the school gateposts, but keeps her minibus licence. I can guess why- the examiner can't bear the thought of a retest....

My wife was crashing for years before we met. She had a 1.4S Fiesta when we first met- it was under 6 months old and had already been reshelled after she'd rolled it... on a straight road. You can still see the newer bricks in the wall she partly demolished. She drives eveyday into Birmingham, god knows how. It must be like train syndrome where the other drivers see her every day so know what c*ck ups she's going to make before she does. If she every changes her car there will be carnage. Her Dad was just as bad. We once went to a pub (he drove so I could have a pint or 3) and on leaving he stopped at the white line. Pity it was the centre line.... at the end of a long straight and I was in the firing line in the front passenger seat. We had to take his license off him in the end poor chap. I can see history repeating itself.

She's bent every car we've had. I've bent none. Even if I do start I doubt I'll be able to catch her up before I croak it.

Nice to see others are in the same sinking boat as me. Those of you fortunate not to be should be grateful!

I think it's a mars and venus thing- I'm convinced they just see a car as a box to get to the shops/where they want to go quicker and easier than walking. How they get there and the problems they create on the way are irrelevent.

keep the faith (and hold of your keys)

Interesting that Sabine Schmitz has been mentioned; SWTSMBO is German, and TBH, I can't fault her driving. She anticipates situations, can read the road and knows when to put the loud pedal down and knows when to back off. She's been driving for nearly 30 years and had two non fault accidents. Her mum is 86, been driving since 1959 IIRC, and as far as I know had no accidents. She still drives, but knows her limitations. She recently bought a Fabia Scout 1.6CR and mentioned it lacked the power her old MkIV Golf 1.9TDi had :giggle:

Mines fine she gets a bit tizzy with parking but she can park and if she's that way out she really can drive especially if its a suit up her trumpet in some company car, she takes great interest in ruining there day the out nerving them and out cornering hahaha I suppose it's what you get when she used to own a FRP as a daily driver

Ahhhhh........Ford Racing Puma?

FRP = Fibre Reinforced Plastic Silly

No complaints when my wifey drives, I know my place-----------in the back seat.

Ahhhhh........Ford Racing Puma?

Yeah :) we needed rid because we couldn't store it and it was too risky to drive it not wanting it bumped because body panels are impossible to get Hold of hoot to drive tho.... Bit under powerd tho

SWMBO says she is a better driver than I am, and I actually agree. Feel totally safe when she's driving...

Well we all just had the last laugh as today their car insurance went up by approximately 100%. YOU WANT EQUALITY? You pay for it. But, I would just like to point out that in the cold light of day I would have to retract that comment. (wouldn't really)
