Change in car taste?

Featured Replies

Over the past year or so my taste in cars has some what changed and other half thinks im mental, is anyone with me or is the other half right?

Im currently 23 years old with a Octavia vRS, lowered, remapped and after market alloys for summer, nothing chav like but its not standard and its had a fair bit of money spent on it. Although ive been told i dont suit my car as its too big for me but its suits my age group so to say.

But in recent times i actively crave a Skoda Yeti (with the same 170CR engine, it still needs to have poke :p ) Ive been to see one at a local dealer and would happily own one right now, i dont think ive EVER seen anyone under the age of 40ish driving one, i love the Superb's and am starting to think the Rallye green Fabia is a bit vile and too young...

Recently went to an Audi dealership, other half walked straight towards the R8..i look, i appreciate for a second and get all excited when i spot the A8 and ooo i want go sit in that...

Driving about yesterday, i say ''they look really smart, i sooo want one'' other half turns to look expecting something sporty or rare or expensive, it was a Fiat Panda 100HP

At the Nurburgring recently, there's Porches by the bucket load, Ferrari's, Vipers, Mustangs, GTR..loads of head turning stuff, we drive past (after closing time) and there's some hire cars to take round, once again i say ooo i want a go! It was a VW Scirocco... WTF?!

There are many other occasions where this has happened...even i dont know what is happening to me, am i the only person who gets exited over a humble honest car?

BTW im extremely excite to see the new Dacia Sandaro..this is my point!

On a more serious note, we all fancy a change from time to time.

Drive something else when you get the chance.

I find it gives you a better understanding of the car world and makes you appreciate what you have.

there is nothing wrong with a bit of comfort and the better things in life.

I went to the Nurburgring at the end of June. I was lucky enough to go in a GTR. But, I would much rather erm.... "spoil" my £4000 Fabia than a £70,000 GTR, or Porsche or just anything expensive. Plus, you can't beat thrashing a car that you have driven a lot and know all of its little bad tempered habbits. Dacia...NO! It just a dumbed down Renault/Nissan get together.

I was about to take exception to this post and then realised I'm nine years older than Bossfox. Yeti is ideal for ferrying my five year old around though, he likes the extra height which gives him a better view than the Octy did.

Spooky, also 23, also have the exact same taste in cars. I like all the cars you mentioned. Meanwhile my younger brother creams himself over a vxr of some form.

Audi A8 is a lovely car......my brother has one......pure class!

Get a Sirocco then Emma....I love them, and would love to own one.

But I know what you mean, I loved the Octavia a lot....but love the Golf Plus just as much....totally different to each other.

I work for Renault and it was our launch date for the Dacia Duster (small softroader) very pleasantly supprised! The one I had was a LHD German plated 1.5dci 110bhp 2x4 with full leather climate 6spd box and fiew more fancy bits and I'm not a fan of renaults but this was a supprise! It drove really well was quiet pulled well enough and the interior wasn't a bad place to be, it had alloys metallic paint tinted glass leather cd air on other bits and bobs and was £12,495otr price for the spec I had.... I would never go from a skoda to an oddly pronounced Dacia (dat-cha) but wasn't horrid.

Drove a hired Yeti in Lanzarote last year and decided I liked it. Sad thing is, they don't come in Sprint Yellow and mine does.

I had a Superb MK1 at 21..I love my big cars. My view is they are stealthy in a weird way. A8s for example are owned IMO by execs..they want to show they have money, class and want to waft about. I would have one because they look nice, and with the right engine go like stink and handle well too. Surprising the chav next to me at the lights in his corsa.

I'm driving my Cee'd but plan on buying a cheap luxury barge for the days when I want to drive, waft and have fun...the only probable day will be payday mind when I can afford to put petrol in it :p

So in all..your not alone!

Yeah people my age should (apparently) lust after Scooby's, Evo's ect fast, loud in your face cars where i see a Yeti or a big Audi or a little city car and want one!

Dont get me wrong i do love a good sports/hyper or loud shouty cars but i dont lust after one as i know im too tight with my money to ever own one so why bother wasting my time saying that 'one day ill have one?'

Id be literally over the moon to have a Yeti, with the 170CR, stage two map and possibly a set of coilovers (i still want it go and handle (ish) like the Octavia, i dont want a massive hunkered down silly car but my Octy will handle a few bends and put a smile on your face.

I would have a Scirocco but that would be my weekend car, it would have to be the R, the 2.0tfsi isnt fast enough for a second car and no point getting the diesel as the Yeti would have that engine.

My perfect garage;

Yeti- Daily but still looked after

Citigo/ Dacia Sandaro- work car shed

Scirocco R or RS4 for the weekend blast

Even if i won the lottery i will wouldt bother with the Lambo ect Id just get insured on the partners :p

I've been looking for a stage two, but so far on the 170CR it's only a stage one which gives about 200-210bhp and a lot of torque.

Mind you, with the 4x4 working away it's surprisingly capable.

I consider stage two a bit of turbo work though. Maybe 250(ish)bhp?

Other than the "weekend car" you've got my garage. But I snuck a jap thing in there... :D

I went from a vauxhall corsa 1.4 sport to a classic shape volvo s40 2.0T at 21 so i know about been differant,

I'm now 30 and have a mk1 octy vrs that is far from standard and i have times where i think about selling it and buying something abit more sensible then getting a little saxo or clio sport to use as a track car

I kind of know what you mean. I've just turned 26 and own an Octavia vRS too. I used to have a Fabia vRS but now just look at some of them driving around town, chaved to the eye balls and think to myself, I'm glad I'm in what I consider a more grown up car these days.

Very true Matty....seeing more and more chavs flogging fabias around now.

Very true Matty....seeing more and more chavs flogging fabias around now.

There's loads going around Carlisle now, now a Fabia vRS tastefully done can look the business, but the ones that's popping up now...... To me unfortunately due to the price of early high mileage Fabia vRS coming down, it seems they are becoming the new Saxo in these parts

My car taste changes all the time. Once upon a time a car to aspire to was an Astra 1.6 SXI. I obviously grew up and got a Polo thinking German reliability was good. How wrong I was. Now I like the usual super cars and some odd things too. I like the Yeti, Suzuki Swifts are awesome to drive. Recently I've been looking at E46 3 series BMW's even though in the past I never would. Even though by today's standards it's outclassed in every way I'd still want a AE86. Before getting the Polo I looked at Morris 1000's, proper Mini's, Vauxhall Chevettes, loads of stuff. I like loads of odd things.

Have you looked at the yeti projects section emma? the 1.8 with a K04 conversion?! :o I want....... (but then I am over 40...)

nothing wrong with your thoughts, just shows you are a car "enthusiast"

I test drove a panda 100HP down one of my favorite roads, and came back with a mahooosive grin on my face..... brilliant cars ;)

your 306 though, I'd have tried to get a rallye ;)

I know I shouldn't but I would - MG ZR in BRG, 1.8 vvc 160bhp. 0-60 in 7.4 and easily tunable (I'm told) to 180-190 bhp. Sad isn't it but one could be had for £600-800.

It's your hormones dear, unlike me it's my age that sees goodness and beauty in unlikely cars. Nearly bought a stripped out and caged Saxo VTR a couple of years ago. Glad I didn't , I'm happy with my "Lot" for a while.

I've always liked barges over hot hatches. Fav cars when I was a nipper were the Rover 3000, Vx Senator etc.

Used to like BMWs but just can't get on with the current styling. They all look like they're running on wheels that are too small with fat arses.

Preferring the new Mercs these days. Not that I'll be buying either.

I had a Volvo 850R estate at age 20

B5 Audi S4 estate at 21

Silver MK1 octavia vrs at 22/23

And now another octavia vrs mk1 but now a yellow one.

I just refuse to pay the stupid insurance costs on the evo/scoobys etc.

Oh im 24 btw!

I just like the honestly of all the cars listed, they dont try to be in your face and im loving the the whole dark horse look, i mean i can make the Yeti which yes im sorry is more an 'mature person' car go as fast as my Octy vRS..that i love!

B5 S4 avant? Mega jealous! I like your taste in cars and the Volvo is awesome!

I think its like the Top Gear Cool wall, all the big shouty cars (well 99%) where classed as uncool as they kinda are in a way. One car the springs to mind is the Porsche GT3 RS, i bet it an awesome car to drive and a real drivers car but the scaffolding in the back makes you look like abit of a **** to be honest and the colour options are to be desired!

In selling the Fabia, I've found my taste has changed a LOT. Been offered a lot of cars as part ex...

- Glanza. Old me, yes. New me, no.

- MG ZR with Tomcat lump. Old me, yes. New me, no.

- Octavia vRS estate. Old me, yes. New me, no.

- Golf GTi 1.8T. Old me, yes. New me, no.

- Fiesta XR2i. Same again.

- Corsa diesel. Old me, no. New me, still no. :giggle:

- Corsa with C20LET. Old me, yes. New me, no.

- Renault ClioSport. Old me, no. New me, maybe.

- Polo 1.4 TDi. Same again.

So far, the only 2 I've had where I'd have them as a younger lad or a mid-twenties, young at heart lad are a Civic VTi and an MR2.

Tastes change. I was looking at S8s before I bought my Beemer. Previously it would've been Integras, Evos, etc. Still wouldn't say no to a DC2 though. ;)
