Featured Replies

Some advice needed,

I want to get myself a pressure washer to help clean the cars and I want a decent one that isn't going to break after a years use.

Karcher seems to be a major player but which one and are the quality or rubbish.

Depends what your budget is mate?

£150-£200

I've used this a few times seems like a great deal, i bought a cheap Nilfisk from amazon for half price xmas last year i use it every weekend to do two cars minimum still working great.

Keep an eye on Amazon, xmas night the sale starts then.

This one is half price ATM.

Nilfisk use a metal pump body, not a plastic one like Karcher. The Karcher ones tend to shatter at the head. This one also has a 2 year guarantee.

Universally accepted on Detailing World for reliability and quality...They used to be called 'Kew'

My Karcher ones came free with Tesco car insurance years ago so will use them for as long as they last; that's a no brainer :-) I've started using mine regularly now so I'll see how long it lasts!

My last two Karcher washers have not been reliable..my present one has a slight leak.

I recommend Nilkisk from recommendation on Detailing sites and friends who have one

The lower powered Karcher ones have a plastic motor..Nilfisk do not

Thats the no brainer aspect for me..My next pressure washer will be this one.

Chris stop being brain washed by bloody detailing world man, jesus!!

LOL...I'm not matey..LOL

Detailing World is one source..Other car Forums and friends' experiences speak for themselves

There ARE better Pressure washers than Karcher

I also have a Nilfisk C110, it's quite compact and does a very good job. the fittings are a good quality and I would recommend one of these.

I also bought mine through Amazon and it was a lot cheaper than Karchers of a similar type.

Another vote here for Nilfisk rather than Karcher.

But to be fair I manage just fine with one of these...

I thought that till I got a black car again and always ended up with scratches all over it after I had washed it so now always jet wash it first which seems to help.

Whats wrong with a hose pipe as above. Pressure washers can inflict a lot of damage especially around wheel bearings etc.

Never had any problems with my Karcher (now 4yrs old) and it does a decent job on the driveway too

Hose doesn't get all the grit and dirt off in the same way as jet wash hence you rub it all round the paint with the sponge and scratch it.

The only real advantage of a jet wash to me is the snow foam function to help dissolve the dirt and aid it's removal.

I used to have a Karcher jet wash (that leaked) and to be honest it was more hassle that it was worth.

May be I have good water pressure but the hose pipe is plenty powerful to remove any grit from the surfaces before using the sponge (a dirty word - so feel free to replace with lambs wool wash mitt!).

Sometimes forcing more water then is needed into and around the car doesn't always get the best results.

I have one of these too, but it never get's used as it's too noisey...

Avoid the cheaper karcher's as the plastic pumps dont last,I have a karcher 6.80 and its been fine for the last 3 years and it gets used every week.

Whatever make you get make sure it has a metal pump head.Got a good deal from http://www.cleanstore.co.uk/

I have a Nilfisk C110 which is fine for my needs. Came with some toys, which was a mixed blessing as then had to spend two days cleaning the hard standing. The drain cleaner was very useful when we had floods a couple of weeks ago. Could really do with a longer, more flexible hose but that applies to all I think.

Its light enough to drag about, powerful enough to strip paint (off the garage doors). Did a bit of searching for the best deal, turned out to be Amazon, £44 delivered, against an rrp of £100+.

Oohh look man...Its not just me that rates the Nilfisk!! :giggle: Jesus!!

SPONGE??!!! :peek:

To be honest, it'll all been said here: the main point is that the pump is metal (normally brass or aluminium) as they last longer and don't crack like plastic. I got a the Nilfisk C110 package linked on here from Screwfix a few years ago and it's pretty damn good. They usually have deals or reduced prices if you keep an eye on their website.
