According to a UK motoring magazine the new Ford Focus ST Estate is the only estate car in the hot hatch class.

If memory serves me correctly (I have one) Skoda make a hot hatch estate and have done for years.

Having had a Focus for 4 years I would have my Vrs for quality every time.

How can an estate be in a hatch test?

Not a test just an article about the ST estate

flamin ford!

I'm struggling to think what hot estate Skoda makes.

The Octavia VRS was the only one that they used to do wasn't it? As its no longer in production it wouldn't count now.

Having driven a new RS4 estate, I would say that leaves most cars behind but it's not really in the same price bracket!

the Volvo V50 T5 isnt exactly a slouch...probably the same car as the focus isnt it?

Don't think that's in the same league as an ST tbh Silver.

I still really don't like the look of the Fabia no matter how they dress it.

Not looking for an argument!

It's just my opinion.

Isn't the insignia vxr available as a load lugger?

That's about the same performance, maybe abit more for about the same dosh.

The insignia is 4WD and has 320bhp, they have just released the VXR sport version: 170mph for £29,995

Different ball game to the focus in terms of pace and quality.

Agreed.

2.0T SRI Insignia?

1.6T SRI Astra?

Volvo (any really) T4 180 bhp R-Design?

Passat 2.0TSI Sport. At a push, not really sporty.

Not many to go at really.

insignias to cluttered inside for my liking, but it does have alot more grunt and i'm sure the insignia's a saloon ?

The only trouble with the ST for my liking are the seats - unless you're built like Frankie Datori then you've no chance of squeezing into them - bloody awful!

Who'd buy a Focus ST with how it looks now, anyway, estate or hatch.

The Insignia is available in estate or hatch, no saloon option, at least here in the UK.

Edited because I am wrong, there is a saloon!

is it me or does the saloon look like an after thought?

Hatchback added for comparison.

I actually prefer the look of saloons, but the impracticality of their boot openings rule them out for me...

The V50 is built on the same platform as the previous generation Focus. The hot version was indeed powered by the Volvo 2.5T inline 5. The current focus is totally new and has a two-liter Ford turbo power plant if i'm not mistaken.

Does look the part in any variation doesn't it?

The focus looks good in my opinion but probably doesn't have as much space as a vrs estate. The insignia certainly has the power but looks a little dull. Value for money, I'd stick with my vrs estate.

+1 on the value front- that's Skoda's trump card. Surely the term 'Hot hatch' relates to the original Astras/Golfs of which the insignia is too big to be included in as it's the modern day equivelent of the cavalier.... in more ways than 1 :giggle:
