Intercoolers (Mk1 vRS)

Featured Replies

Got the forge one on mine and it's a great bit of kit,may be pricey compared to the others but a quality product, modified the crash bar on mine too for more airflow and I also stencilled on a vrs logo which isn't to everyones taste but it's different

But then it got neglected and a bit tarnished so i painted it black and re did logo

your car still looks ace buddy....

Just got thinking about this. Has anyone ever tried mounting a cooling fan system with the standard setup and modified arch?

maybe it would be ****e but it might keep very high temps down?? maybe the intercooler just isn't big enough?

Any thoughts

A fan wouldn't make any difference. The intercooler is only needed when you're moving so it gets all the air it's going to

I could be wrong but without a louvered arch it doesnt look there would be any air passing over the intercooler. At speed, the pressure would just build around the intercooler )due to the open vent at the front) but not actually go anywhere like on the TTs where the arch is open too. A good few jeeps have fans on the intercoolers, due to low speed but power still needed I assume.

Ah, it's just me thinking about not wanting any extra lag from extended pipework really. I might give it a shot and see. the logic behind it being the intercooler would not get a chance to heat up when sitting in traffic and at low speeds etc

There is a gap behind the intercooler so the air will go through it and be bushed toward the engine by the arch liner. Making the air turn the corner is far from ideal but I'm not convinced that the holes in the liner idea and the risk of dirt that goes with it is the answer. A properly fitted louver would be much better than holes imo.

ah, right. I didn't know that it was redirected towards the engine.

I thought it was just a dead end, That makes more sense.

The holes in the arch liner like in TT are not for getting air in but air out. This is supposed to stop heat soak in the intercooler. I modded the Vrs arch and fitted a TT one in place and worked quite well. The dirt was kept out by the fact the slits are louvered facing the direction of the wheel's.

theres no need mate,go really steady with a dremel or angle grinder to do the cut out.you can use tape to mark your cut lines, that will help stop the powertool sliding around!! then use a surform to smooth out the cut lines in the big mouth opening...i did mine on a newly painted bumper...i did brick it i have to say...but if i can do it and not make a kok of it,then anyone can...just need to be patient is all. it took me 2hrs to cut the bumper out and smooth it off +30 mins to cut the rub strip +1hr to cut and fit the mesh..next one will be quicker though!

Dont need any paint just cut out the recess and then get some emery cloth and take rough edges off at back,

I used a hacksaw blade to cut recess out and
