I've been offered an SDI........

Featured Replies

2003 classic 5 door hatch (I actually want an estate but it'll do for the time being). One owner 78k miles with FSH (part skoda). MOT till june next year (no tax). Tidy and clean. No aircon but leccy windows and central locking. Only known issue is rear passenger door doesnt work off the central locking. Has been cambelted but told it needs doing again on time rather than mileage.

Have not seen or driven it yet but its a part ex from a fellah buying a new 12 plate skoda.

£1000 sound ok guys?

Does the back door open? Make sure it does, otherwise it can be an expensive job. Sounds good, just knock them down as far as poss. If you want any wider wheels and tyres, 185/60-14,on 6Js, speak to me, you can have a set for nowt if you can collect from Northamptonshire.,. .

It's not due in till monday. A mate of mine works for the dealership and messaged me the details today. the price will not be negotiable as they offer them at trade to friends of staff if anyone wants anything. It's the same dealership that sorted my OH's car for her.

I will ask about the back door. Why is it expensive if it won't open at all? Can it not be dismantled by a qualified DIY mechanic?

I would absolutely love a spare set of wheels and tyres mate as we do everything on a mad budget these days (hence the SDI's and veg oil lol) and as it happens I will be passing you tomorrow night (but not till late sadly) but pass by every couple of weeks. :)

I had my rear o/s seize up completely and there was no way of releasing the deadlock other than taking off the trim and the door plate with the door shut, then chiselling the lock off from the inside. A bit time consuming. If anyone knows another way, please let me know. You are welcome to a set of wheels and tyres, all are legal tread, I just take them off as I am somewhat fussy about tread depth.

Cheers Peter. Provided they are legal I'm not fussy. It's not like an SDI actually needs 'speed rated' tyres ;)

Funnily enough :rain: the rear passenger side door lock failed on our Fabia and did need chiselling out. A pig of a job due to position, but not actually a technically difficult one, so, if you can use it to negotiate the price the I wouldn't be put off.

Hi my fabia back door also did not work (SDI as well). I opened it by getting the engine going then vibrating it while someone pressed the open switch a few times. Then disabled it by unplugging the cable behind the rubber cover between the door and the car. So it has to be opened and locked manually on the back door now, dealer wanted about £270 to sort it out and I dont use the back door that much so manual operation is fine.

If this doesn't work, it doesn't need chiseling out though, if you take the fuse out it will unlock by pulling the release wire that goes to the pin that pops up. If you leave the power connected it wont budge!

This is a new thing I've heard of, our SDI never suffered with this at all.

Coincidence? Or is it just a Fabia thing?

Dunk, could you have not just got a new locking motor for the door from a scrappy or am I misunderstanding the problem?

Ah -two different problems; one is the electro-mechanical failure where the suggestions above work; the other is where the actual metal pieces seem to get out of line (please excuse description) and cannot be freed without brute force. Our problem was the latter - tried all others first - and a second hand lock from ebay solved the problem. The chiselling is done inside the door whist it is still shut and locked. Once it frees the door will open and the lock screws can be used to take it out in the normal way.

My problem was also the latter.

Just do a General Lee on it.

Just do a General Lee on it.

It would cost more to weld it up than fix the lock. Rear doors that do not open would fail the MOT unless permanently welded shut.
