Advice on roof bars for mk furby vrs

Featured Replies

Id like a bit of advice, i want a set of roof bars for my fabia vrs mk1, they will be only used a few times a year for surfing and poss our bikes ( not at the same time lol ) which ones do you have or recomend?? Which polo/seat ones fit too if any? Cheers in advance;)

I had the Thuel aero ones with specific Fabia foot pack. Were really good and looked OK for roof bars. I had 2 of the 591 (?) bike carrier on them and they made a right racket (whistling) and shed about 5mpg! And i had a 3k bike knicked from mine and it was locked with the built in Thule lock!

Safe to say, the bike/s now go in the car with a plastic sheet down!

I have a set of thule aero bars. Look nicer than the normal square ones, bit quieter too.

Gosh NoSmokeNoPoke that is one seriously bad experience! I've had aero bars on mine for about a year. No probs personally. Little noisy and I tend to add a d lock of leaving the bikes for a little longer but other than that they are great.

I picked mine up for £20 off the bay. They are the same fittings and foot pack as the mk1 octavia. Seems there are a few more ex octavia owners selling them on so I just ended up searching for octavia roof bars.

No you need to cut them down a little if you're bothered about a couple of inches over hang

The thule bars are set lengths irrespective of what car they go on. (think there are a few options but generally all bars will fit all cars length wise.)

The bars have rulers underneath (best way I can think of describing them) and the help sheet tells you the correct width for your specific car. No cutting you just move the feet in to be the correct distance from the middle. So mine had been set a little wider by the previous owner for the octavia so I just had to move them in a little as per the instructions.

Ps very simple to do all 5mm allen bolts nothing else.

Cheers dude, I expected that to be the case. Don't want them poking out. Always hit them with the hacksaw.

Could be wrong but I think you'd struggle to get the end caps on if you cut them as the lock holes I think are just at the end not all the way through stick of rock style.
