mobile paint repair companies. yes or no. ?

Featured Replies

hi folks, im looking for some honest advice on getting a couple of small but bad scratches on my paint work repaired, i am at the limit with cutting the paint as i have made the problem worse .has anyone used m.p.r.c to repair paint problems, if so was the job good, i would consider using them if i thought the finish would be of a high standard, my paint is metallic cappachino. a local company close to me is called chips away but know nothing about them. waiting on your reply's. thanks

I had Chips Away repair a sizeable scratch on a black metallic Peugeot. Would never know that it had been scratched at all after he had finished.

I do hear that the quality of repair is down to the mood of the individual repairer (I think they are all franchisees) rather than the company, so I can't comment on how good your closest one will be.

Seen lots of there work and repair looks good for a few months then u start to see where they have blended it in to the original paint . Would not use them IMO .

The mobile guy I (and friends) are using is fantastic. Never let me down and his work is better than 2 of the local bodyshops I used before.

Member Robclubley (Now in New Zealand) had his red vRS estate keyed when he was living in the UK, it was repaired by Chips Away many years ago now. The car and he are now located in New Zealand, where it still looks as good today as it did when he lived up north in England. If the chips away operator knows what they are doing the results are as good as any decent bodyshop. After all, they also paint the area in the same way a bodyshop does.

I used Revive recently for a reasonably big graze and crack on my rear bumper and quality of job was excellent and cheaper than body shops and more convenient.

Like any paint repair it depends on the paint type and colour, silver is a pita, black is easy, also depends on the nature of the damage and the quality of the work but it can be as good as a decent bodyshop and usually cheaper but get a quote form a few local places.

Chips a Way gets a thumbs up from me. I used them for a repair on my car and intend to use them again soon to do some stuff to SWMBO's vRS

I have used Chips Away and was very pleased. They are franchised so I guess it does rely on your local guy being good but my repair is over 5 years old now and it looks great - but it was black.

The quality of the repair is only half the issue, due to this being a mobile repair the only issue is the quality of the lacquer. In previous works with mobile repairs being carried out, the lacquer is the key to a long lasting repair. We did tests with a 1k lacquer generally used for mobile repairers & some were very very good & others were very poor. The finish we tested was on panels subject to daily life with no washing etc, some failed after a few weeks & some lasted well over a year with no washing or polishing & still kept a great finish.
