Columbus connecting to maxidot and steering wheels controls

Featured Replies

Hi

Simple question I think

Getting a 2006 l&k with maxi dot and steering wheels controls. Putting my Columbus (well the dealer is) into it. Will it talk to the maxi dot ok and will the steering wheels controls work I.e volume etc?

Thanks in advance

how old is the current car?, as long as they are both pre facelift then it should work just fine. The L&K will need the can gateway coding to say navigation is installed, but it should work without that.

Taking it out of my 2007 vrs. The parking sensors and climate do not come up so expect that to be the same?

I presume the dealer is up to doing this lol

Parking sensors and climate will be the same, hopefully the dealer will get it right. Otherwise find someone local to you with VCDS to check the coding.

Ok cool thanks

Least I know it is possible

Anyone Letchworth area have the software at all?

Thanks

Letchworth, I guess its progress doing the switchover. I am sometimes up in Stevenage, but not for a week or two until I am up there again.

Yes

They are usually ok with most things on my cars

I keep Ivan busy lol

Would you mind if I contacted you incase I need your help? I work in Stevenage if that helps and will compensate you somehow lol

Do you have maxidot and MFSW in the current VRS?

There may be a tweak needed of the Columbus firmware, Josi has a thread in the firmwares section on vwnavi.com

Hi

No the vrs did not have the maxidot? Will look into the forums and let you know

Am running the older firmware (version B) so should avoid the battery drain issue

Thanks

Version B and not the smiley thing lol

Ok thanks for that. How do you identify the version of the software?

Also the dealer has agreed to retrofit it so I think I will make it they're problem. I guess a canbus update is easy for them to do if required.

Forgot that the car is a 2006 and it worked fine in a 2007 model, guess cannot assume the same lol

Thanks

No, that is if you fit an aftermarket stereo

If you want a gateway let me know

The dealer may fit the radio and if you get battery drain, they are not going to give you a gateway for free. They will tell you that you shouldn't be fitting items to the car that were not available when ordered.

I know of a similar case with a VW dealer, they fitted the radio and the owner got battery drain. Their solution was to remove the radio and refit the original

Thanks much appreciated

I will let you know and give you a shout

How much would you want for one and are they easy to fit?

The gateway in the 2007 car will most likely be the same as the 2006, so if your columbus is ok in the 2007 vRS it should be fine in the 2006 L&K.

Thanks for the replies

Am in touch with Eddy and he has quoted for me for fitting etc, just need to find out where he resides lol

Although saying that is sounds very easy to fit so might not have to go to him?

Cheers
