13 Registration Good or Bad?

Featured Replies

Well just had it confirmed the other halfs Citigo will be build week 6 (ordered on the 10th Dec 12) and delivered to the dealer ready for the 1st March. so it will be a 13 registration. No problem for us as we have had numerous green cars and are not superstitious?

Talked to the DVLA to see if the rumours were true about extending 62 plates or making 13 into 131. They say no planned change to issuing 13 on the 1st March.

Have also heard that some dealers are planning to offer good discounts to tempt buyers over the 6 months as they are expecting a fall in sales? So maybe should have hung on for more discount?

What a good question. :)

I've been thinking the same. Will it matter or won't it...

Problem is, personally I don't see myself as supersticious.

But then I don't want to have a 13 plate in case it makes it more tricky to sell later...

My thoughts exactly as yours.

But I think let's say 3-5 years on when maybe some these '13' plate cars will be moving on to new owners it may not register with them as being so superstitious, who knows?

My neighbour has already said though he doesn't want a '13' plate, his wife had already picked up on that one as he suggested a new car in March.

Oh my word - is this has become of the world? I'm grateful if any car I buy has all four wheels - what numbers are in the number plate certainly isn't on the list of car buying criteria. In fact I've just realised one of my registrations does have 13 in it - been the best car I've ever owned too!

what a load of nonsense

every number 13 on every street has an empty house, i don't think so

No, some are 12a. :D

As I look straight accross our cul de sac the numbers are ....9, 11, 15, 17. Number 13 missing.

Mick

Won't be buying in the period in question, so have no personal axe to grind. However whilst those who clearly regard it as nonsense themselves are happy with a 13 plate, they must surely see that there are those for whom it would matter and might not want your car when it goes up for sale (particularly a private sale).

Green cars are probably a bit up against it as it's not, apparently, so popular. But 13 is still regarded as an unlucky number by quite a few, I'd have said.

And, conicidentally, my neighbour DID mention it this very morning as he's going to collect his new car today and the dealer spoke about the matter to him.

If fewer people buy 13 plate cars then surely the supply of "new" second hand cars will decrease in the following couple of years, thus keeping the price up. Basic supply and demand.

If actually nobody cares about what number is on the number plate and the same number get sold, then the supply of "new" second hand cars will remain constant, and because nobody cares, the price will hold up.

I can't really see a losing situation.

Sadly it's entirely likely that many people won't buy 13 plate cars due to superstition.

Stupidity - just like the fact that aircraft don't have a row 13 in them*.

(*or at least, none I've been on ever have)

They adopted 131 here Rep. Ireland.

How does putting 131 make any difference? Everyone still *knows* it was built in 2013 and everyone still *knows* that really its a 13 plate.

Because 131 and 2013 are not as unlucky as 13... I guess. :)

if that is the case, perhaps it vanished into the bermuda triangle or green men from mars took it back with them

I think we get the point that you're OK with the 13 plate and can't accept that others don't.

Liam is just pointing out what they're doing in his neck of the woods. If that's what they want to do then so be it.....seems reasonable to me - 131 isn't 13 is it?

Strikes me we'll go round in circles on this one. But that's OK - it's what forums are for.

Had a very similar situation last year with a lady who wouldn't have a registration that either had a 3 or added up to 3.

She bought a new Fabia, the car arrived end of Feb, the car was then collected (thus taxed and registered) on the last day of Feb, giving the car a 61 plate (7 I believe was lucky).

I think it was something cultural/religion related.

Me, couldn't give a hoot, and even if I did it wouldn't make a change as the demos will need to be out on the road at some point.

you say about offer's....surely those will be on 62 plate models so the dealers can shift them off the forcorts and fill them with 13 plate models.

Hasnt it always been the best time to buy a nearly new model when a new reg is released as the dealers dont want them?

Well at least 666 (or 616) will not be coming around again in this lifetime. Was your lady Vietnamese? They are the only people who regard 3 as unlucky AFAIK.

I can see "13" bothering some people, but not enough to damage resell value.

...besides if someone is that bothered, they could always put a private plate on.

On that note, no doubt some people will take advantage of the "13" plates looking like a "B", then illegally doctor the number plates to make "cool" or "naughty" words.

Example:

MY13 OOB

Couldn't they contra the bad luck by making it mandatory to put a 4 leaf clover on all plates too?

Rabbit foot air freshner? :

DVLA are already selling the 13 ( B ) plates that spell words when you illegally space them, even though they tell you that you can't illegally space them of course...

Reminds me of the old calculator trick...

Been looking on the dvla site and there are a few funny ones.

Seen one I like just hope it doesn't sell before I've made my decision/placed an order

I've just picked up FA13 VRS

Couldn't care less about the number 13 being lucky or not.
