Battery Charger Lidl's 17th Jan

Featured Replies

Can anyone confirm what the 'snow flake' symbol mode does on the Lidl charger? I've got an almost five year old battery on our other car and its been taking a little extra cranking to start it on the oldest mornings, just wondering if leaving it hooked up to this overnight might help?

it should be in the manual.

iirc its for agm/gel batteries mainly

yeh the snowflake is for AGM batteries and its also useful for charging batteries in freezing conditions.

Great, I'll definitely be picking one up on the 17th :-)

my ctek 3600 would never charge my batteries fully (140ah total) but the 7000 does

To be fair, you can't really bash it for not being able to charge a 140ah battery...that's well beyond it's designed purpose.

The snowflake mode is for charging AGM batteries, or for charging normal batteries in "cold conditions". It doesn't specify what the temperature should be to be classified as "cold conditions". But from what I've read about 12 volt lead acid charging theory, I think it would need to be very cold to use this mode on a normal battery ie -20C or so.

So just stick to the normal mode to charge your battery, and as your battery is 5 years old and showing it's age, I'd plan to replace it soon.

Charged up my Porsche battery overnight - indicator said "FULL" this morning so all good. Just stuck the charger on the Pug to give it a bit of a blast (Its not being driven at the moment) and I might even give the mongrel a quick juice up. Can't grumble for the money - must save many people a lot in dead batteries.

Just a quick reminder to anyone wanting one of these that the offer started today. I got mine this morning.

Got one this morning, the instructions say to disconnect the battery before charging but has anyone used it without disconnecting the terminals ,and without damaging anything. If the battery does need disconnecting how would this affect ,say the radio etc when reconnected?

I never disconnect the bettery when using it.

Hasn't damaged my Octavia or Fabia.

Like i sai before i connect mine once maybe twice a month infact i did it last night, clipped onto battery while still in the car, i accidentally started the car while it was charging and it switched off charging automatically.

For £14 its an absolute bargain.

My instruction book for the Aldi XS Auto does give instructions for charging both on and off the car (Page 9).

Just bought it and a bit stumped when it didn't do anything when connectec BUT tucked at the bottom of the same page it tells you, if the thing won't show a charging signal after connecting, to remove the black lead - and reconnect it.  Sorted.
