Headunit adapter for mk2 Octavia

Featured Replies

hey all,

just thought i'd share this as it will be very useful.

I wanted to change my headunit to my pioneer. Lots of people said i had to run a cable to the fuse box due to the canbus system etc.

There is a way for it to be plug'n'play by using the connects2 CTSSK003.

Its actually a stalk adapter but includes the quad lock connector too. The little box of tricks it comes with fixed the canbus issue and the headunit works as it should

Hope this is useful for anyone wanting to fix an aftermarket unit :)

I have one of these bad boys connecting my Pioneer AVIC Navi system. Makes installation a breeze. The only mildly complicated task was routing the Mic up the A-pillar, but that was only a 10 min job.

I reckon this is what I need as I have a pioneer head unit which only works when the ignition is turned on unlike the Stream which stayed on until the key was removed,

My question is does this adaptor fix this or is it just to make the installation easier?

You need to swap the ignition live and perm live round on the pioneer loom BUT what this does is give you a remote so the headunit acts the same as the oem unit with regards to power. Take the key out, it turns off. The car doesnt get confused and you cant turn it on with the key out the ignition so no drained battery

Thanks ryan-re, will get one and give it a go,

I was not able to get my Pioneer AVIC F940BT unit running as you described here. I also have the CTSSK003 canbus adaptor and tried changing the the live and permanent wires with each other. The unit still powers on and off with the engine and the key in the ignition doesn't work like it did with the OEM unit (Stream MP3). There seems to be a delay of circa 15 seconds until the unit turns off after the engine has been stopped and removing the key from ignition instantly turns off the Pioneer unit (this is with the red and yellow wires not switched).

I guess the only way to get this unit running without the engine running is by running a wire from the fusebox from an unswitched source and put an on-off switch in between just to be sure there's no excess power drainage :-(

My car is a late 2006 model (October) Octavia II VRS TDI.

Humm.. I will give this wire swap one more go tomorrow as the center console is still in pieces.

So the only thing you've done is change the yellow and red wires around on the Pioneer harness? I have the speedpulse and reverse signals from the Connects2 adaptor attached to my unit and I've done the bypass on the handbrake signal on the Pioneer harness (this works fine, I can play DVD's while driving etc) but I don't think these make any difference to this power issue.

Have you had any issues with the memory of the Pioneer unit resetting when you've swapped these wires around or did you have any issues when they weren't swapped?

i couldnt comment on the memory situation, i wired it up on saturday but as i broke the aerial connector ive left the oem radio back in the car.

I havnt wired up any of the extra cables

Hi Ryan-re,

I've just registered on Briskoda.net simply to reply and say thanks very much for sharing that information with the community.

I am suffering the same problem where my new Alpine head unit is constantly live and never fully turns off.  I have a Fabia mark 2 (2007 onwards), which is also listed as being compatible with the part that you used on your Octavia.

I took advice from other forums to buy a Connects2 CTCSK01 CANBUS adaptor but it made no difference.  I emailed Connects2 for advice but have just found your post about the Connects2 CTSSK003 adaptor, which sounds like exactly what I need.  It also appears to be a quadlock-to-ISO adaptor and CANBUS adaptor in one, which should make it much easier to squash all of that extra wiring into the small space behind the stereo!

So thanks again.

P.S. Your link to CarAudioDirect.com doesn't work any more - here's a link to what appears to be an updated model: http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/ctssk003-2-stalk-adapter-for-skoda.  That lists the Fabia (and Roomster) but not the Octavia but, as the original part was compatible with both, I'm guessing that the updated one is too - it certainly looks the same.

Ryan,

if you have not sorted it out happy to help

For the benefit of anyone else picking this post up in a web search, here's the response that I have just got from Connects2 (who were very helpful) about my 2008 Skoda Fabia II that had the original 'Dance' double-DIN head unit without any steering wheel controls:

"I've just checked with the software engineers for you - they can't see why the CTSSK003 interface wouldn't work in your vehicle to be honest, its just that we haven't tested it ourselves so its not on our application guide.
CTSSK003 will still function as a CANbus interface even if a vehicle without steering controls."
