Hi my MkII Octy suddenly shut down in the middle of the road a couple of days ago. After cranking the engine, it did start up but the engine sound was more prominent. On putting the manual transmission to first gear, the engine shut down again. The engine when started can be revved up to high rpm without problems but the moment you put it in gear, it dies again. The idle rpm has also increased slightly. After a few tries, the coil symbol lights up and the display says, ' Engine fault Workshop'

Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? The car is currently parked at home and the nearest Skoda service station is 40kms away. Any suggestions/help regading this is really appreciated.

Is the fuel filter ok?

you need to scan it with vcds.

I do not have access to a vcds system but I am definately interested in getting one. Can anyone guide me which model is suitable for my car? Its a Skoda Octavia MKII (Laura in India) L&K 1.9 MT PD Year 2006 model.

I will check the diesel filter ASAP and post the results.

Took the car to the nearest Skoda A.S.S. in a flatbed crane and after running the scanner and manually inspecting the engine bay area, the service advisor says it is an electrical problem. The rats have damaged some wires inside the engine bay and the scanner is not able to access all the sensors. He assures that there is no mechanical damage to the engine but will come to know for sure once the wiring fault is diagnosed and repaired.

Can anyone comment if they have faced similar problems due to electrical wiring faults and possible solutions?

PS: I have still not checked the diesel fuel filter as per booke23's suggestion due to lack of proper tools. Is it a good idea to insist that the service station check that before anything else?

If rats have damaged the wiring, I think you can rule out the fuel filter.
