L&K or wait for facelift?

Featured Replies

Up until yesterday, I was going to wait an see what the facelift Yeti looked like in December, and trade my 60 plate Yeti in. Now after seeing the post yesterday about the new L&K I'm tempted to change sooner. Should I wait on the facelift, or will the value of our shape Yetis plummet when the face lift appears? If I did go for the L&K I intend to keep it for a few years. Mmm decisions decisions.

I'd wait for a real pic of what the facelift is going to look like, then decide either way depending on if you like it.

Obviously buying now will be a bit cheaper as prices will drop a bit when the new verion appears, even though it's just a facelift.

I've been wondering the same, Kenny R. I guess it's swings and roundabouts: once the facelift is revealed, there might be some really good deals to be done on a L&K, which looks to be excellent value anyway. On the other hand, when you come to trade in the L&K its value will suffer from 'previous model' syndrome. I would be thinking of renewing my monster next March, at 3 years old, so I have a few months yet to think about this, but am conscious that I might need to be ordering whatever it is that I want in the autumn if delivery times are still quite long.

It's a poser, but quite a nice one to have!

Mine comes up for 3-year replacement at the end of the year too. Too soon to know what the facelift will really look like, but what will be more important will likely be any new higher-power engine/DSG options, eg CR180 with DSG.

The alternative that's slightly tempting me is the Macan, which ought to be available (for ordering at least) in the same time frame. In a different league of cost of course and I've never spent anything like that much on a car before, but as a once-only purchase, plus I've always slightly hankered after a Porsche...

Will that hideous Porsche be in the same price bracket as a Yeti?

Oh I do hope so. I'd love to go into a Porsche dealership, have a test drive and then tell the dealer "No Thanks, I prefer my Yeti"! :giggle:

What would you do if it turned out the Macan was better though?

With that body shape?

No chance!!

You never know - they might fix the boot end. That's the only bit that'd bother me. When you're inside you can't see the outside.

I'd think that what you see is probably the final body shape - just look around at other similar SUV's, they all seem to favour the sloping tailgate as that's what people want. Some of the criticism of the Yeti is that it looks like a van - but IMO the vertical hatch is a great advantage - which is why I bought one!

I plan to change in March 14 ... current plan is to wait and see what the facelift looks like then decide between another Yeti or go back to a vRS and have an Octavia 3 vRS (if its heavy enough for my caravan).

It'll be interesting to see what the Macan is like. Probably OK, like the Cayenne is as it's based on it's VW sister.

I suspect a similar market aim as the Evoque, that being an OK car with a premium badge to justify a large profit margin on it.

In my opinion the Yeti and the Macan/Evoque are aimed at completely different markets.

They wouldn't touch a Skoda and I wouldn't pay over the odds for a badge. :) (5% better for 30% more £)

Agreed, Richard.

Why, oh why would Porsche build a car like that?

They are sports car manufacturers.

That is what a Porsche is. A sports car.

Their attempts at chelsea tractors are dire. At best, they look like a child has discovered the stretch function on Microsoft paint!

I don't like the sloping rear of all the other suv's either.

The square back of the yeti means it is easy to get stuff in the boot without having to lean in over the boot sill.

It's other great advantage is that when it's raining it makes the perfect shelter to remove waterproofs and muddy boots before getting into the car.

I really hope that Skoda don't go down the sloping back route for the yeti.

One of my favourite features of the Yeti is the practicality of the square back, along with the unpainted rear bumper which doesn't show minor nicks or scratches and the rear door doubling as the perfect rain shelter, although the numberplate recess does form the ideal duck pond in the raised position, which one has to be mindful of when closing :giggle:

Have a fear that the practical rear bumper may disappear with the facelift, along with her eye's, as the corporate clone police appear to be running Skoda's once excellent design studio at the moment

The Cayenne is their biggest seller - that's why they build it.

It's also (looks aside) a very nice car to be in and drive. For me it's too big, too thirsty and too expensive, but I don't see how it can be fairly described as "dire". Having driven both I'd much rather have a Cayenne than a 911. Even if I didn't get to keep the change. ;)

I love my Yeti and have my second arriving at the end of March, but there are other good cars out there, and I'm not sure it does us any favours to dismiss all the alternatives. The Evoque I tried, for example, was great. Very comfy, lovely inside, drove and handled on a par with the Yeti. Again, for me it wasn't worth the extra, but I can see why it is for others.

Hi,

Just looked at the new brochure for the L&K it comes with DAB!!!!

Shame i don't want leather seats or pay 2k extra....i think I'll stick with my 3 account and streaming :-)

I've been hanging on for DAB and finally it comes on the L&K with it as standard. Unfortunately I was after 110 2WD, due to budget new and economy so not sure I should stretch to 4WD only L&K. I could be inclined to get carried way, but I'm not sure I can get it though the domestic accounts dept.

Shame you can't get the same Columbus DAB as an option on other models. I called Skoda UK today to see if they are planning on doing the L&K with 2WD, or whether they are going to broaden the availability of Columbus DAB, but they didn't seemed to know anything further to what the current brochure states (or at least wouldn't tell me).

I really hope that Skoda don't go down the sloping back route for the yeti.

+1

but they didn't seemed to know anything

No surprise there...

I would expect DAB to be a more widely available option come facelift time. Failing that you could see if you can find an Urban which has Amundsen with DAB?

You need to realise that the staff at the outsourced SUK Call Centre only know what is on their scripts - if it's not there they might Google for an answer or even (as I was told yesterday) call a local dealer!! :)
