I found my Superb: She's called Audrey!

Featured Replies

The brolly costs about £40 if it’s missing!!

From memory it was only the brolly they dropped from the spec, a few minor items changed on the S and SE, but nothing else springs to mind on the Elegance though.

  • It's taken me a week to read this thread after my own Superb purchase! I can only say how gutted I am you sold Audrey! It was like a soap opera I didn't want to end. What am I going to do tomorrow?!

  • That's one hell of an aerial on the back there!...

  • It's not an aerial; it's the pole that makes contact with the ceiling grid.

I wonder if anyone here got the SOLAR PANEL Sunroof on their car!!!

Awesome!

Just a couple of things if i may enquire / concern:

1. The car came with no receipts (ex-Rep car)

So i try to ring Central Skoda (Birmingham) where the car was serviced,

To try to get copies of the service receipts.

Thy refused saying thy belong to the original owner! :-(

2. Central Skoda also said thy only sell their own extended warranty,

Which only covered major parts.

Thy recommend i should ring SUK for a more comprehensive warranty.

3. Rang SUK and thy cannot extend since Audrey done 70k (exceeded limit!)

Thy recommend to buy from Car Care Plan as its their approved warranty insurer

4. I ran DM Keith instead

Thy said i can extend at £300+/year or £600+/2yr if

I pay a £40 inspection fee

5. Audrey drives well

Quiet (but members here have complain of road noise)

Couldnt hear any speaker rattle

DSG a little slow in kickdown

Couldnt get used to wipers on by pushing stalk up (as opposed to down)

Nor the bonnet release on passenger side?!!!

6. Couldnt work out computer info from stalk

What servicing info can i reset/set myself from the trip computer/steering stalk?

7. Front /rear heated seats took FOREVER to warm up

8. Now i know without rear wipers the rear screen hard to see

Wot do others do?

Use rain-X on it?

9. Theres a boot motor?!!!

Close the boot and a motor whirring sounds

And the boot seems to close itself a little tighter?!!!

10. Electric mirrors dosent fold flush to side body

Like just 75degress rather thn 90degrees folded (normal?)

11. First aid compartment in boot

But nothing inside - does new car have a 1st aid box?

12. Glove compartment a bit sticky

Does not open until press release button 2/3 times!

13. Deffo dont like the PRODscreen

As Mercurio puts it - lol!

14. Nor the handbrake as it seems more for passenger to use

Thn driver!

15. Is there anythingelse i can program?

Like auto fold the mirrors?

Auto alarm after 10mins?

Auto door lock whn drive off?

Auto Boot release from remote?

Etc etc

Thks all again

Sorry mate - I thought BlueTooth was a separate device to the Stereo

So, bluetooth is built-in as standard?

And how do I know its got bluetooth?

Apologies if my questions sound a bit dumb - still have a steep learning curve for Skodas and some techs!

Thks for your patience!

There is a setting on the columbus that adjusts the volume of the audio when the satnav speaks, I dont recall where since its been more than a year since I sold my Superb. Try under settings, then volume.

Since you have just got the car, you'll need someone with VCDS to enable a menu on the columbus so you can see what version of the maps and firmware are installed.

You can get a rough idea of the version, if you can enter a full postcode in the town/pcd field then its fairly recent. if you enter only a partial postcode then its quiet old.

Later cars have no problems working with iPhones by the way, even if you have a problem you can get the newer bluetooth module which IS SEPARATE and replace the older one. Costs less than £100, and it lives under the drivers seat (ie. nothing to do with columbus). http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/189618-rsap-bluetooth-to-handsfree-sucess/

Cheers Mannyo!

I did enter partial postcode - it thn autoFilled the rest for me.

Panicked - didnt know wot to do, thn was abled to enter full postcode somehow!

So i will assume i have later maps :-)

I yet to pickup Audrey (nx week)!!!

Want to keep my Scoob longer coz of weather :-)

I have one on my Superb, but I can't imagine why you think it's "Awesome." ?

5. Audrey drives well

Couldnt get used to wipers on by pushing stalk up (as opposed to down)

Nor the bonnet release on passenger side?!!!

Wipers do a single wipe by pressing downwards, upwards switches them onto intermittent, then onto full

Yes the bonnet release is on the wrong side.

6. Couldnt work out computer info from stalk

What servicing info can i reset/set myself from the trip computer/steering stalk?

I think you can only reset from Maxidot.

7. Front /rear heated seats took FOREVER to warm up

Perhaps they haven;t been used for some time, mine take about 5 mins to warm up when on highest level

8. Now i know without rear wipers the rear screen hard to see

Wot do others do?

Use rain-X on it?

Rain X, GTechniq or Aquapel would do the job.

10. Electric mirrors dosent fold flush to side body

Like just 75degress rather thn 90degrees folded (normal?)

Sounds about right, they don't sit perfectly flush with the body

11. First aid compartment in boot

But nothing inside - does new car have a 1st aid box?

Can't remember whether mine had one from new, but I also got a pack from my lease company.

12. Glove compartment a bit sticky

Does not open until press release button 2/3 times!

Perhaps because not used for sometime, it will probably ease up with use and heat in the cabin

I have one on my Superb, but I can't imagine why you think it's "Awesome."?

It's a new toy for him Ray, everything will be awesome for a bit!

BIG thks Coops!!!

Argee: Coops spot on - its all new to me - so AWESOME!!!

- does the solar panel charge the battery or like the Audi A8 it powers internal fans to cool the cabin?

Fair enough, Coops - Meldrew head on I guess!

No, it doesn't charge the battery, it uses the solar power to run the fan to circulate the air inside the car, rather than use the battery. Note that it does not run the zircon - that requires the engine to be running.

LOL - cheers Ray!

11. First aid compartment in boot

But nothing inside - does new car have a 1st aid box?

First aid kit is no longer standard as it's not a legal requirement in the UK. Same goes for the warning triangle.

DSG being slow to kickdown - it does depend on how hard you thump the accelerator, but if I know I'm about to need kickdown (getting ready to over take, joining a motorway, etc.) then I stick it in S mode as it's much more responsive.

The bluetooth module IS a seperate module. If it doesn´t work with your iPhone, you will need a new BT module, which solves that problem.

Cheers GaSelle

I do have an iPhone and HTC.

So will try both - "if" i can figure out how to work it.

I am also planning to buy some winter rims / tyres for Audrey.

Which size is the most economical for her?

15?

16?

Width and walls?

Sorry if i missed the post but if you don't have service history to hand that would be my first priority over BT modules and maps etc, the dsg oil should be coming upto its second change in 9,000miles. (i.e every 40,000)

Hi Black vRS

No need to apologise.

I havd no receipts.

But, the service book is stamped IIRC 19k, 20k and 56k

by Central Skoda Birmingham.

There was no cambelt change.

And Central Skoda refused to copy me the original detail of service.

An interim service (include front pads / oil / filter) was carried out approx 67k by seller.

So at 70k.

I assume its due:

80k DSG oil / water pump change £???

80k major service £200+

80k cambelt change £300+

Anythingelse i missed?

I don't think 15inch steel wheels clear the brakes- need 16inch minimum.

Does anyone know if the optional extras like Heated windscreen

and Park Assist need to declare to insurer

If so how much increase would i expect?

Would the heated windscreen be claimed on windscreen cover?

Or would it be a FULL insurance claim - eeeek! ?
