I wish mine would do that a 1/4 tank in mine today 42 miles from full line to 3/4 line

Keep yours and run it into the ground... Get finance on a lotus exige ;)

Started looking at Lotuses this afternoon, can't stretch to an Exige :(

S2 Elise will suffice ;)

S2 Elise will suffice ;)

I came to that conclusion too. Also found out that I'd also have to budget for a front end respray since they are low and lots (but not all) have stone chips

Ok so the commute is a go, job offer is in. Now to decide what to do about the motor. What realistic mpg do you tdi monte guys get please? And realistically what could I expect from my own car...I'm asking that as I barely drive the darn thing

I do 32 miles a day, all A roads with some 30mph bits in town and I get 35mpg average from a tank (vRS) . that includes stopped in road works recently so potentially could be a little better.

35 is easily achievable...

Personally my commute is 144 miles per day, most of it motorway. Bearing in mind I'm still running the car in as well it's getting anywhere between 37-43 mpg, unless my right foot gets heavy then its obviously less. To put it into perspective I was running a VW Passat on the same journey before this and that was doing 50-55 mpg, but the daily cost of driving is virtually identical because of the difference in fuel prices and general running costs. I'd stick with it and if you can stretch to something silly for the weekends then why not?!

Like a motorbike? Yusssss

If you were to actually drop the vRS of your commute, it would make sense to totally get rid of it as it doesn't really qualify as a driving enthousiast's weekend car. If that is all it ends up doing, then there are plenty others that do the job better.

That been said I don't get why you would need to switch to driving a boring thing and curse everyday you get in it. Personally I like to enjoy every moment i'm in the car unless I had to drive something specific for professional reasons (van, lorry etc.), Driving is something to be enjoyed and it sounds as this commute will probably occupy most of your driving time so why you want to kill all the pleasure that you would get by doing it in your vRS? Also, the mpg's go higher with longer trips normally. If one thing, I would be actually happy that I would have the chance to enjoy my car more. I only recently moved houses and my commute fall from 20 to 4KM everyday. Apart from the only slightly reduced "fuel bill", I really miss when I needed to drive the car for 20-30 minutes every day. It was my free daily dose of "speed" and kept me happy. Now I have to wait when the weather and obligations allow it in order to go for a nice trip on weekends, and this doesn't happen very often.

Ok so i did a dry run the other day the the office and i got a casual 45mpg to the door, bearing in mind this car has only done 6500miles from new i do expect that to get better as it goes on...?
