Heater flap moving incrementally

Featured Replies

Sorry I know this topic has been covered to the death but just needs some clarification.

I took apart bottom half of dash to watch the heater control flap.

Now it will go from full cold to full hot but does not seem to want to stay anywhere in-between.

I have blown out the temp sensor under the heater control and what happens now is from full cold, turn heating up 1 'click' and the motor does move one cog, but then if continues to move cogs until full heat. this takes around 5 minuets.

Do i have a problem or would it be down to the fact the air temp today was about 5 degrees and thus the interior of car was colder than the heater control on low anyway?

If that makes sense.

Or is this a sign of fault with the temp sensor?

Cheers for any info

Gav

The motor is a stepper motor that has a sensor within it so it knows what position the flap is in, if its only moving from one end of travel to the other it could be the motor itself internally even though its working.

If you have access to any diagnostics - as sometimes carrying out basic settings on the flap motors can cure problems. Maybe there is a fault with the temperature flap motor

IT moves from one end and fully to the other if I select both ends of the temp dial,

but if I select say half way between hot n cold then it does move and stop half way, but will then slowly continue to go to full heat.

Do not have access to diag unfount.
