Simple question, Oil..

Featured Replies

What does i need? I hate to ask this but i cant seem to decide between 504.00 or 507.00..for some reason both of them seem relevant, think im getting confused with my old PD unit..

Octavia vRS 2.0PD DPF (which is no longer  )

Tar!

I believe 504.00 is for petrol engines and 507.00 is for diesels.

I was looking into this yesterday (because mine is running a little low, and Eurocarparts have a 25% sale at the moment), and when I checked with my mechanic, he said that the PD engines require a "PD" oil. Are the oils marked "PD" because when I put my reg no. into the site it just comes up with ordinary 5W30 and 5W40 oils?

I have heard that i9t is crucial to the injectors working correctly - is this true?

I believe 504.00 is for petrol engines and 507.00 is for diesels.

I think this is correct, two standards for petrol and diesel respectively. However, one oil can be both and in most cases if an oil meets a certain standard for diesel it also meets a corresponding standard for petrol.

as above, you will that if an oil is 504 it will also be 507 - just get soem longlife III from a VAG dealer

The single overhead cam PD diesels have a design problem. In order to squeeze both the fuel pump and the valve cam lobes onto a single cam shaft, the lobes had to be made narrower than they would have liked. Result would be rapid wear unless a very good quality oil is used.

I buy my oil from opie oil's and only bought some last year but i cant for the life of me find the invoice with the specification on it.

Atm its on fixed servicing but..

Its due a service at 80k which is 3k away, im going to book it in early as its going to Germany in march (i wont cover 3k in 2 month) so let them do a full service on it and then when i come back ill change it again. Last time we went it drank over a litre of oil due to long periods of sitting at 80-90mph on the autobahn. so for what its worth ill just do a full oil change when it gets back or just top it up, depends how much we use the Octy while out there

Ask Tim at Opie - always found him to be very helpful

Opie have a very good parts finder on their website. You can use this to get the correct oil spec.

Enjoy your jaunt.

Simple answer:-

504.00 for fixed interval servicing;

507.00 for variable interval servicing.

The oil container should clearly indicate which it is and may also be badged up as "Longlife" if it is 507.00.

There's literally hundreds of posts on the forum about oils - try a "search" for more info.

All the best

From the owners handbook :-

Flexible service intervals diesel 507.00 Petrol 504.00

Fixed service intervals diesel 507.00 Petrol 502.00

On DPF equipped Octavia's it's very simple, WW 507.00 only. Nothing else will do.

Variable or fixed interval servicing doesn't matter, both require VW 507.00.

But, since you have had the DPF removed it may not be so relevant.

However, the VW 507.00 specification oil is the latest version for VAG diesel engines. For the sake of a few extra quid I'd be sticking to the VW 507.00.

Opie Oils also have a sale on Castrol Edge 5W-30 (VW 507.00), this is the same stuff Skoda dealers use.

£39.98 for 1x 4 litre tub, 1x 1 litre tub and a free storage pouch for the smaller container to keep it in the boot...

Just use 507.00

As said, it's not much more expensive and you know for sure it's correct.

Cheers guys, i knew it was one of the two but could decide on which one!

I must admit in use castrol edge bought from Makro it cost 26.99 incl vat for a 4litre jug. I've been quite lucky and always caught their promotion so keep an eye out for this one.

5w30 seems to do the trick for me.
