DMF Question

Featured Replies

Hi, I know there's a lot of posts about DMF failure on here and I've read through a lot of them now but can anyone who has exerienced a failed (or maybe more failing) DMF on a Fabia VRS say whether the symptoms in the early stages included a slight increase in noise when the clutch pedal is pressed down?

My car drives fine, there's no vibrations to note (other than possibly a slight shuddering when starting occasionly), no clutch slipping, no gear change issues, and when ideling I can't hear anything other than the normal engine noise. However, with the clutch pressed down the noise from the engine seems to change note somewhat, almost like it's an extra knocking sound running in time with the engine if that makes any sense. It seems worse when cold and has been like that for at least 1,000 miles.

I guess what I'm trying to ask is does anyone else who has a VRS hear a change in nosie with the clutch pressed down, or does it not change at all?

Thanks,

Jon

Mine changes, from memory it's quieter when the clutch is depressed? Ill confirm later

That would be great if you could, thanks... the noise in mine gets noticible louder when the clutch is pressed down, at the point when the engine and gearbox are disengaged, then back to normal when you take your foot off the clutch.

Cheers

mines does this too and when the pedal is half way / around biting point there is a major rattle

Mine gets louder when the clutch is depressed. No other rattles.

I would stop worrying too much and enjoy your car. You could put a pound in a jar every day and start saving up for when/if it goes.

Ditto to this....I've had concerns for turbo, dmf and countless else....

at the moment I've put the first two to bed worry wise

More bothered about my suspension worn to death at 100k now, got the bits just waiting to be done + lowered

Hoping to look for more of a warning sign for both that they degrade from this point, I haven't had sticking turbo veins yet and I haven't had anything to suggest the clutch is completely on way out either

I think it could do with realignment of the gears though which I'm planning to do when the weathers a bit more predictable

Thanks for the replies, it's good to know it's not just my car that does this at least. I think your right and while there aren't any other symptoms I'll just continue to use it and not focus on the noise too much. I do find it a little annoying, probably more so because I do a lot of short journies and it's noisier when the engine is cold, I assume they didn't do it from new but then again maybe they did, hopefully if it is the DMF it'll last for a fair while before it needs changing.

Mine does this too, recently went in to garage for a service and they assured me it was normal. It was a slight change in tone when no clutch was pressed. Mines been remapped to 325ftlb of torque. Drive it sensibly and has been fine for 2 years.

Thanks for the info, it's encouraging to hear a garage said it was normal as I guess they must work on a lot of them, really hope I can get 2 years out of mine as well :)
