Screen Wash Bottle Woes

Featured Replies

After the recent freeze and just before MOT I topped up the screen wash reservoir on the wife's Fabia. Had a constant drip-drip-drip :(

MOT place advised that the pump worked enough to pass but mentioned I should get it fixed.

Duly ordered new bottle, grommet and plug from main dealer (only £3 more than breakers with postage!!) but alas they didn't give new pump grommet. Had to re-use old one and now I have a drip-drip-drip . . . bugger! Back to square one! I also think this was the original problem as the old bottle seemed intact - well it was until I had to remove it.

Lesson 1 - if the nuts holding bottle in place are rusted and you try to loosen them the captive bolt wil turn in the plastic of the bottle and require the bottle to be cut away around the bolt to get a 10mm spanner on it. This was on both nuts. had to remove headlight to get at second one.

Lesson 2 - bottle will only come out with bumper partly removed. I was lead to believe you could remove bottle from wheel arch (smaller 2ltr bottle). Not the case and wasted a good hour trying.

So in all had to remove the following due to seized/rusty parts:

Air box

Battery

Batter cover/tray

Wheel

Wheel arch liner

Headlight

Bumper

Also - I now belive that the car had had a front end bump as the mountings for the headlight had been plastic welded as this now broke on removal of headlight. Arse. (had to replace OF headlight two years ago due to same issue). Lower mounting point bolt totally seized and just turns in chassis mounting point. Dunno how to get this loose now?

So any one know of good/cheap place to get replacement NS headlight for Fabia SDI 2001? Pref new?

Also part number for Screenwash pump grommet? This can be done with just arch liner removed thank god.

Whoever designed this washer bottle location whilst sat in a comfy Czech office with nice coffee served by sexy Czech women, deserves to be shot - or worse! grrrrr.

Yup, that's the bunny. Got one on order from dealer for all of £0.53 incl. Why the hell they don't include as standard on a new bottle or advise parts dept to tell customer is beyond me. They advise the bung and washer to blank of low level warning sensor, hence me thinking washer was included. Bah!
