vrs fuel filter change

Featured Replies

Hi chaps, just about to change my fuel filter and wondered how i'll be able to know if there is any air getting into the system once the new one is in place. Have read in a haynes manual that there is an inspection pipe but can't find it :/ some advice would be great! thanks :)

Just changed mine last week all I did was filled the new filter with diesel, had no problems so far

Oh nice one thanks, was it a messy job??

just swap them over. No need to fill the new one with diesel, just crank the engine over until it starts.

Do you suspect an air leak for some reason?

no just that air might get in the system somehow

Contrary to this advice, you should fill the filter with fresh diesel before use, as recommended within the VAG service manual for all examples of the 1.9PD.

Cranking the engine without fuel in the filter is not the method recommended by VAG.

+1 always fill a fuel filter before reassembley where possible

I've changed fuel filters a couple times on PD engines and never pre-filled the filter.

Does no harm whatsoever.

i tipped the diesel from old filter into a cup and then tipped it into the new filter, no probs.

Is there a guide for dummy's like me? never changed a fuel filter before.
