Window clips broken

Featured Replies

Hi all,

On my way in to work this morning I heard a loud bang on closing the passenger window. I have been told that its the plastic clips which hold the window glass on the runner snapping :weeping: and that metal clips are available from VAG/Skoda.

Are there any instructions available on the site for changing these as I dont have a Haynes manual.

Are there any other common problems which I can look forward to? I have a problem with the engine at the moment (apparently MAF).

Cheers

There is no Haynes manual for the Octavia and there are no plans to produce one. The nearest you'll get is the MK4 Golf.

I dont believe there are any instructions on here though I'm sure someone will be able to help.

As for common problems, you'll find that the TD's and 1.8T's are generally pretty resistant to major mechanical faults though you may wish to do a search on here for "coil packs".

Some of us have had problems with creaking anti-roll bar bushes. Whilst this is not really an issue it is more than a little annoying.

I have a mate with a Mk4 Golf who has replaced the clips on his car, he actually warned me about them snapping last week! I will borrow his manual. Apparently VW supply metal replacement clips.

I have just called Platinum Skoda and they say that I have to replace the whole regulator

Did you buy it new/used etc.. Chances are the coil packs may have been replaced already if its a "used" vehicle.

This is just a guess but I'd say the Golf clips *should* fit the Octavia. Always worth a try, especially if you know someone that has changed some before.

I bought the car used. 75K miles 1998 S reg 90Bhp GLX TDi. FSH.

I have just called Skoda again and got a service bloke...a bit more helpfull. Although he couldnt help much with the window problem he did say that from what I described about the engine it sounded like the MAF meter. But he would have to run a full diagnostic check...and because I have no engine light that may not tell us anything.

Also called VW and their answer is to take it out for a drive come back and fit a new MAF and then take it out again...if it gets better leave it in there....bingo!

Still a bit confused about the window. Which bit is it that breaks? I have 3 different opinions from people 1) The plastic clips holding the glass to the runner have broken...new clips required. 2) A plastic furrel on the regulator cable has broken...new regulator require. 3) A plastic "finger" which pulls the window down and pushes it up has snapped and I need a kit of some sort to replace it.

Is any one of these the common cause?

Check out my gallery for some pics that might help, http://www.briskoda.net/gallery/browseimages.php?c=565&userid=, I had then in along with THIS THREAD.

Funny enought one of the lads in work has a Golf that did the exact same thing a few weeks ago (broke the glass in his case). Is there a problem with the plastic clips ?

Is my one considered plastic or metal ? I know the clamp is metal but just wondering is it the plastic bit to the right that fails

The Golf regulators are different to the Octavia.

Take some advice from someone who has done alot of these, replace the regulator as a whole, saves alot of hassle and it aint much more.

I have replaced the window clips on our Golf using the repair kit supplied by VAG. The cost of the kit is about

I have looked at the link to vortex and it looks like a bit of a job. I have ordered a new regulator from Skoda and I am going to get a quote to have them fit it. However I am a bit concerned that if my problem is the plastic bits have I ordered the wrong part? What does the "regulator" include?

The plastic bits come with the regulator so dont worry your ok.

The Octavia is different to the Golf as I said, the Octavia doesnt have the metal inner door mechnism so its alot easier.
