Bonnet Bra's

Featured Replies

Thinking of getting one for my Fabia vRS, been hitting the motorway a fair but recently and noticed my bonnet is looking worse for wear!

I personally don't think they look that bad, especially considering you can get colour coded ones.

But anyway, looks are not the point. Protecting my baby is!

So do they work? Are they just a waste of money? Would love to hear anyone's experiences with using them...

As for looks its personal preference. They don't fit at all well and look as if they would scratch paintwork with the little buckles and straps on the underside. Maybe look into some sort of clear protection film for the nose of your baby.

Prepare yourself to be shot down over this one lol

I personally think they look horrible.

They look ok but they wreck the paint work under it mate

@ Dav-Vrs - Nice looking motor. Yeah I don't think they look that bad at all. As for the underside, there must be a way round it...?

@ trundlenut - lol. So you'd definitely recommend one... ;)

Muck gets washed in between the bra and bonnet and then the bra moves around and sands your paintwork for you.

Thanks for that. So what would be the alternatives? Apart from a re-spray or buying a new bonnet...

I think it just depends on the quality of the paintwork. When I chopped my octavia in it had done 115K but only had 3 or 4 chips on the bonnet and I did a lot of the miles on the motorway. The bonnet was no worse than the bumper or A pillars.

If yours if looking rough the paint on the bonnet may not be very good. I had the bootlid resprayed under warranty and when I took it to the VW bodyshop the bloke there commented on how thin the paint was on the boot.

Imo id just get the front of your car clear wrapped in 3m wrap the same stuff they use for carbon wrap. Looks alot better and doesnt ruin your paint.

I've seen concourse cars drive to and from shows with bras on. . .2things if Dont wanna damage the paint. .

1) don't leave it on long enough that lots of crap gets washed behind it,infact don't leave it on at all if its wet.

2) cover the points where it touches the pain with "detailers" tape.

itd be alot of effort to run one alot but without scuffing your paint.

I'd go for a front wrap too, you can get some decent anti chip clear stuff like the 3m stuff mentioned.

Bonnet Bras don't do the job people think they do if left on, they do damage the paint when they are suposed to be protecting it.

And they look terrible IMO.

They damage them if you don't use them properly.

And by properly I mean the paint must be clean and dry before I goes on, and it can't be on there longer than 5 days at a time.

I also think they look terrible. And I think those bonnet only ones are completely pointless. Especially on the fabia as the grill is exposed.

If you're gunna do it, do it right and get a full frontal. At least it'll cover the right amount of paintwork.

I had one for my polo, looked like absolute cack but kept the whole of my front end chip free on long journeys.

There's a bloke where I work that's got one on a BMW 3 seires estate leaves it on all the time it's made a right mess underneath looks like someone been at with 80 grit wet and dry

Would sooner gouge out my own eyes with a spoon than have one of those on my bonnet.

Get it vinyl wrapped if you want to protect your car, but each to their own

Yeah mate at put me number plate back on the mesh has I got done for having a bike plate on the side of bumper but got a sticker on coming so I can move the number plate again

If you want to protect those couple inches of paintwork on the bonnet from stone chips then go for it, but to be honest whats the point when the rest of the front of the car is still going to be hit by stone chips, completely pointless and so terribly horrible to look at.

If you really want to protect your paint get a vinyl wrap on it, i think someone else mentioned this earlier however

It will not protect your bonnet, it'll rub over time causing much worse and more noticeable damage to your paint as fine grit etc gets underneath it.

Agreed Avalon, saw first hand what it did to my lads car!

Sorry not a fan :o
