  • Check rear wiper and washer work. That is a common fault.

  • Instead of paying a extra £1500 to get a FL model I'd be throwing that cash towards getting one with lower milage

  • You completely missed my original point. My point to Killa_uk was don't rely on the trip computer on a PD engined Octavia to give you an accurate readout of MPG....do a few brim to brim calculations

Are you assuming it's a vRS by referring to suede or do other models have the leather/suede(ish) trim too? If it's a vRS and he drives it like a vRS should be driven I'd love to see the state of his late night fares after a bevvy.

Thanks for the advice guys well the one am lookin at today is a ambient 2008 I'm a bit curious about the high mileage tho not sure if its too high for what I need it for te car comes with full dealer history and 1owner.

I've also seen a newer facelift version estate octy2 se with also 120k on it but this one is £1500 more then the 08 one not sure weather to just get the newer one as the older one no can only use for 2 years as to licence regulations on manchester.

Hope info like it as I've just had a really bad experience with my passat which I got conned from the previous owner last month and was out of pocket £1500 that's another story

If it's not face lifted check the sills for rust and bubbling

Not sure if it's worth me buying the facelift has there been any improvements to the facelift to the normal one apart from looks

You think that's too high for my needs??

I suppose it depends on how many miles you're going to add to it but if it were me I'd be happier with less miles than a FL car with same miles that cost £1500 more.

Just went and put a depo on the car I went for the octy1 I think that's what it's called as when I went there and took a drive in it looked over at the clock and it has 95k instead of 120k so bit of a admin error to my benefit...

Just curious to know what's the town mpg like on it...

If you don't already know how to check the health of a dual mass flywheel do a bit of research on this forum.

There is plenty info on how to spot one that is on the way out.

Best possible senario - owner can supply receipts confirming recent single mass flywheel conversion.

Beware - very shortly there will be a flurry of responses warning against SMF conversion and assuring you of the desirability and durability of DMFs.

This is one you have to weigh up all the perspectives and come to your own conclusions.

Well the garage has given me a months warranty with the car and in that time I'll know if the flywheel is on its way out or not but seems nice and tight at the mo..

What's the general town mpg on these baby's

Depends.

What engine does it have?

Just noticed the octy 1 reference. Of course the car is of an age where most Octavias in the UK would be pre FL MK2 models - but the MK1 did continue to be available to the taxi market well into the MK2 era, so your car may well be a MK1. If this is the case my DMF comments may not be relevant as I am not sure if these cars were afflicted with them.

Engine? I assume it's a diesel.....1.9 or 2.0?

It's a 1.9 tdi pal

In that case, according to the book you should see 43 MPG out of it in town.

I'd guess that's realistic if you're careful......especially if you do the the odd longer run during your shift. But you you end up doing a lot of stop start driving (i.e. heavy traffic or lots of traffic lights) you'll struggle to get that.

Got the car home and it was a treat to drive nice and solid car drives just right much app reaction to everyone who helped me with advice I'm surprised I was averaging 62mpg driving at 70mph on the mway never had that sort of consumption also I went thru a lot of a roads and it dropped to around 51mpg around town so far so good

You need to do a few brim to brim fuel economy calculations to verify the accuracy of your trip computer.

They are often inaccurate.......usually they are over optimistic on the octavia.

You can certainly disable it with VCDS, not sure about a plug under the seat though.
