hey was just going to purchase a cheep vag com lead off of ebay to scan my car to see which abs sensor is down but was just wondering could i end up doing more damage than good ie putting a virus or somthing into my cars electrics or am i being abit of a fag about it all..?

any ideas?

I certainly wouldn't recommend a cheap vag com lead from eBay.

Have a look on the VCDS owners map, locate a friendly Briskoda member near to you and speak to them about a scan.

Genuine or not it won't cause damage to the car.

However you could put a virus on your laptop.

Perhaps you should have a look at VCDS lite, you buy a cheap lead off ebay and download a shareware version of VCDS, i'm sure this is what the op was referring to rather than suggesting buying an illegal version of VCDS which would be a bad idea and lack any official support :)

Alex to answer your question you don't need to worry about a virus for your car per say, as pointed out though it never hurts to run a virus scan on anything you download, even from Ross-Tech :)

You can check your ABS sensors manually if your worried about anything like that. Assuming they are the same type of sensors across the range and have not changed much, here is a write up I did when I had my Golf3.
