Rapid spaceback

Featured Replies

I would expect the Spaceback to be about 4300x1706 mm, as opposed to the Fabia estate which is 4247x1642. It's an altogether bigger car which competes in a different market - essentially it's intended as a rival for the lower end of the Golf class.

Interestingly, the liftback Rapid is a couple of mm longer than the Mk1 Mondeo hatchback.

Glass tailgate is certainly a nice touch, reminds me a bit of the Volvo V40.

If its like the photoshop then I may seriously be tempted!

IMHO the tailgate is not going to be glass, but rather painted black to look like it's glass. nice touch though!

Looks like the tailgate is all glass, smoked around the edges.

I wonder whether that's a glass roof or just black?

Looking good so far anyway

yeap, i was wrong, it seems tailgate is all glass.

Surely the lower painted part is metal (or maybe plastic).

There must be some metal frame behind it but whether the darker bits round the edges are frosted glass or even some plastic/thin metal foil coating is hard to say. Doesn't look like metal as the join to the glass is too good.

Whatever it is it will look like all glass from a distance and they've done a good job with that :)

Seems to have popped up on ETKA...

Yes, body style "sportback"

Almost looks like a blistered wheel arch there but I really doubt it is!

Yes it is a glass roof  :)

That's quite a nice touch if that makes it on to the equipment list, even if it's a costed option.

Wonder what the price point of the spaceback is going to be? less or more than the 'liftback'?

How do you know?!

Smaller car with smaller boot probably means a few hundred cheaper than the current Rapid.

Unless they add on a few spec upgrades.

Actually I would expect it to be maybe £200-£300 more than the liftback Rapid as it comes across as a bit more trendy.

Sorry for double post - not sure how I delete a post I've just made here :|

The hatch Fabia and Octy are more trendy that the estates, but they still cost about £500 less. :)

Time will tell I guess.

Fabia vRS Estate on the books is £900 more than the same hatchback so I guess similar to these.

Hope it doesn't look too good :D

Just needs a 2ltr vrs motor in it, now that would make a nice quite warm hatch.

I would say the cost thing is similar to cars like the original Vauxhall Nova - the 5-door hatch was dearer than the 4-door saloon, despite being shorter and having less boot space. The Rapid liftback does come across as a bit pipe and slippers whereas the Spaceback is more fashionable.

If the Spaceback was given the 122 or 140 1.4 TSi engine and a manual gearbox I would be really interested.

It depends how they market it and position it, ie. whether it will have the same spec levels. Will be surprised if it's cheaper than the liftback.

Hope it comes with a "Sport" spec line with some cool new wheel options, smoked headlights, black grille e.t.c.

And here it is. Described as "our first compact car with the popular hatchback shape!"

That looks really good. Just needs the interior and engine choices to match.
