Do you ever forget what your VRS can do?!

Featured Replies

At the risk of a flaming, do you ever forget that your actually driving a 180bhp hatchback?

Just commuting in auto D every day, taking the inevitable 3k rpm up changes as the norm, reasonable but not noticeable lowdown torque. Everytime I open the taps a bit more I remember that the thing becomes another car entirely over about 4k rpm... It just seems anti-social to use it that way on the commute!

Nope, sounds like you are driving it far too sensibly most of the time ;)

In all honesty though when I had mine it will feel odd poodling to work knowing I could get pinned back in the seat if I just push the go faster pedal harder!

I admit it sounds a bit odd, but I enjoy having a quick car but don't enjoy driving it quickly in everyday situations, it just feels like I'm antagonising others or inadvertently encouraging knobs to race. Guess i'm just not one of those "me first" types of people.

But give me an empty sliproad or some quiet B-roads and I'm far more assertive!

It's done nothing but snow and hail and rain since I picked mine up 3 weeks ago - I'm still waiting to find out what it can do flat out!!!

No I don't, because if you do it quickly reminds you !! as it pulls away with it's wheels spinning. It needs to be driven so you stick back to the seat.

I have generally found that the more powerful the car I drive the more laid back I am. I do find with the vRS that my normal driving style keeps the revs low so I don't generally get that kick, partly caused by the route of my commute, the traffic and my desire to keep points off my licence. I do use the power in overtakes and spirited driving on some nice B roads when I don't have the wife or kids to chastise me!

I make sure redline mine daily, no point having something you're not going to use that much

Yep - got more laid back since tuning up the mongrel hard. Save it for the racetrack. Also I'm doing advanced driver training too, so no loony driving from me! ;)

I couldn't agree more; when I park I look around the car park and wonder how may drivers realise that the little blue Skoda estate is the fastest in that car park.

My commute into Swansea is soul destroying. The car barely averages 15mph over 7 miles. I can do better than that on my road bike! I normally make sure to open it up on the way back coming out of some of the roundabouts. Often get a BMW, Audi, etc on my bumper before it then after I put it to go I don't see them again. It does annoy me I'm not getting the most out of it though.

Go for a weekend blast - I leave the misses and the dog at home and have a random blast on some good roads :)

Off for a wee run before putting on the Snow tyres for tomorrow.

Still on a high from the roads last weekend.

Top Gear test route across the Corran Ferry.

Sounds like you blokes need to go on a "dawn raid".

That's one of the most spot-on reviews of the car I've read! Yep a weekend spirited blast does blow the cobwebs off, but when you live in the overcrowded south-east it's not quite as easy as in the wilds of Cornwall!
