Cannot open drivers door

Featured Replies

I cannot open the drivers door from the outside, using the central locking but all the other doors and boot do.

I have tried using the emergency instructions but it still wont open, its as if something has come loose inside the door handle, area and is not pulling something as it should

I had to resort to lowering the windows so I could open it from the inside.

Just to rule out a simple cause - if you are pulling the door handle when you press the unlock button, then the door will remain locked but the other doors will unlock.

By the sounds of it you will have tried locking it and unlocking it a few times, but I thought I'd throw that scenario out there.

If not, there are a few posts in the Octavia forum, like this one:

But I guess you'll be back to the retailer before you start pulling trim off?

Also have a look on the ukpassats forum. This is a feature of the b6 passat, which the superb door handles and positions look very similar to. Just search for "lock" in the forum, and you will see the "slam" method, the "pulling on both handles at the same time" method, the "undoing the bolts a bit and tapping with a hammer" method, and the "pulling internal and external handles at the same time whilst getting someone to lock/unlock the central locking on driver's door card repeatedly" method...

Had a good look in daylight, something that is meant to be attached to the outer handle has come off, handle quite loose, the door opens ok from the inside

I had this happen to my Jetta's drivers door. It turned out there was a bowden cable from the lock module (which has the window motor, lock motor and controller for mirrors and lights) had come loose. I could unlock that door with the key but not with the button.

Of course, the keyhole on your Superb is hidden behind that little lift up panel (see your owners manual).

They replaced the lock module and the cable but it was under warranty.

Just a quick update, a small cable about 3 inches long has snapped , (looks like a bike brake cable )

New one ordered £7.00 fitted first thing tomorrow when it arrives

Would you be able to take some pictures as you go along? I think that this will become a common design feature of this car, as it is in the B6 Passat.
