Blackberry Playbook

Featured Replies

Now that these are hovering around or under £100........

would you buy one, over splurging 3 times as much on a fruity fondleslab?

Just thinking for email, web and digital content slurping rather than booting up a laptop.

Nope..... Had one of these and didn't last long as was easier to surf the net on my iPhone.

Get the fruity one

Get a nexus 7 ;)

agree get that extra £60 out get the Nexus 7.

I don't use mobile surfing very much, not enough to have an iPad. I bought a 64gb version Playbook for £129, primarily to watch films on aircraft/trains. Email and browser work well and camera and video very good. Some good apps, Need for Speed and Kobo books. Not bad in my experience for the price, limited for some but ok for my needs.

my natural inclination is for the iPad, as i run apple gear everywhere else. SWMBO has a pretty new BB device and gets frustrated with it sometimes because of how it's laid out, how many clicks and swipes it takes to do fairly simple things etc.

The price is appealing on the Playbook though, certainly much cheaper than the iPad.

I played with a colleagues Samsung Galaxy tab 2 and it felt quite cheap in the hands and the screen appeared and sounded like cheap plastic.

I do wonder about the whole screen size thing too.....7 inches doesn't sound big enough... :giggle:

Not having a big smartphone I might well look at a playbook. I have heard that RIM are going to release BB10 for them.

I know a few people with playbooks and they all love them. Might be a steal on Ebay second hand.

Had a look at the BB Playbook forums..........seems there a lot of issues with certain sites not displaying or behaving properly on the device....is this because the browser is served compressed/processed pages that have been run through RIM's servers and RIM maintain some sort of blacklist?

Just seems a bit daft to sell a device designed for web and content consumption, that is then locked down to not let you view the content and websites you want to......

I take it back, the Ebay eejits are out in force for them paying 95% or more of the new price for a used/refurb.

I bought a 64gb BB Playbook a couple of months ago & got a hardback case included in the £129.99. It does everything I want (Movies/Music/Browsing/Email/Putty/Remote Desktop/Kindle) etc etc and I've not had any issues. I'm a BB Fan at heart and have my 1st (and Last) Andriod phone and will move back to a B phone as soon as I can.

As for extra clicks/swipes etc, I can't say I've noticed them and can't compare to anything other than my Samsung Galaxy S2 phone and what ever Andriod Tablet my mum uses (which has been replaced twice due to hardware faults). I find the BB OS very easy to use and intuitive but then it's what I'm used to.

Battery life is a little over 12hrs when in constant use playing films which is fine for me as it covers my night/weekend 12hr shifts :)

Ive heard this too... if BB10 is on the horizon, could be a bargain to exceed even the touchpad firesale!

I've side-loaded Kindle for Android onto mine as well as numerous off-line navigation apps that utlise the GPS.

My PB even supports video chat through this Flash based web app:-

(Apparently it won't support oovoo for Android)

Can these run custom ROMs? If so I'd be tempted to buy one for the price.

The wife has an iPad, sons have Kindle Fire HDs and I have my trusty PC, Laptop and Samsung Galaxy Note (personal) and iPhone 5 (work) phones.

Adding a further OS type to the collection shouldn't be that difficult
