EGR vacuum pip to nowhere

Featured Replies

Hi all,

After help from Jonny5live I have removed and cleaned the EGR valve and done a negative lead off the battery reset

While taking the EGR valve off I noticed that the vacuum pipe is not connected to anything!!

I hope some one can tell me what should be there?

I am not very good with .pdf there are sticky notes on these photos.

The first photo is of the rear of the head shows the grey/white flange that is the end of the vacuum pipe and it has two small holes in the face.

These holes have vacuum when the engine is running.

Thanks in advance

Worth mentioning that JW has a 1.4 petrol engine fabia, hence my limited knowledge having only owned a diesel

I think you'll find that the end with the two small holes in the face is a very simple/cheap/crude air filter, just to stop larger bits of dust/crud getting sucked in.

From what I can see, the EGR valve is an all-electric design like on the 1.2 12v. The 'vac' pipe on this car's EGR goes up to the clean side of the airfilter, not a vacuum source, just a fresh/clean air source. There aren't any vacuum-operated parts in these EGRs, the air is to help keep moving parts free from exhaust gas contamination, and maybe also cooler. Because of the temperatures involved, it's not easy to create a good airtight seal between the moving parts that go from outside to inside the areas exposed to exhaust gases.

So I think it probably is correct as you have it.

Do you have EGR-related fault codes? If so what number(s)?

I've read on here people using a golf tee to block it off?!

Yes indeed, when blocking off the vacuum pipe for the EGR valve on the PD130 Deisel engine.........

JW is running a 1.4 16v AUB Petrol block ;)
