Nope a 1.4tsi petrol & small electric motor :)

edit: yes it is (doh!), thinking of the A3 eTron.

Yuk no ! Full leccy my round trip is 70 miles. To work so leccy is not there yet !

Yes, but it's range is about the same as the LEAF.

It's nothing ground breaking, just something similar to what's already been done.

There is a GTE Golf too, but that's a hybrid.

Still itching to try an Ampera now that I'm doing 250 miles a week.

Vauxhall are desperate to sell them, they'll do you a four day loan if you ask.

I couldn't see the point of a 30-odd mile EV range (so not enough to save much on fuel) followed by 40-45mpg on petrol.

Might just do that. Thanks for the tip.

My LEAF has gone...

Still have a few mid spec ones at work though.

Looking forward to the next range of longer range EVs at more realistic prices than a top spec Tesla.

About three years apparently...

Colour me intrigued. What sort of range do you think may be achievable by then?

Nissan have already been testing a LEAF with a double battery pack good for a real world range of 140-150 miles and the third Tesla model is due to be a smaller more mainstream family car with a 200 mile range...

But these cars are a few years off.

The Ford/VW/Merc offerings are poor considering that things will move on.

Range similar to a LEAF that's been out for three years already.

150miles if that's achievable sounds more practical to me. Anything over 200 mile range would be pretty much perfect, with me not having my own driveway charging one overnight at home wouldn't be an option so would have to be a case of charge-while-at-work.

Could be a possible change path once my Rapid's 4-5 years old though, if I decide I want to change it at that time.

I got an email yesterday from Nissan about the 'new leaf' with a range of 120miles. Not sure if that's what you had already Richard?

That's an offical figure for the existing car which reastically does 80-90 miles.

A bit like the daft MPG figures we get for petrol/diesel cars.

Yeah I thought so. Just strange that they were pushing it as a 'new' car..when in reality its been around a year!

Found out today that we are not a long way from seeing a Kia Soul EV, with a 27kWh battery pack where the LEAF has a 24kWh pack.

Weight and everything else look similar to the LEAF so it may have a real world range of 100 miles if driven relatively sensible.

They are quoting a 5 hour recharge time at 32A where the LEAF is 4 hours.

And I get Kia fleet discount...

It does look a little odd though.

Jeez, they could've picked a better model from the range to give the EV treatment. The Soul is one of the ugliest vehicles on the road atm IMHO, only marginally behind the Nissan Joke.

I grant you in EV guise in Richard's photo it is hideous. But in the right spec it's a smashing looking car inside and out. It was one of my top favourite cars of all at the recent Geneva Motor Show.

In the spec of this red one in this test it looks great:

To me, it shows the real level of main-stream commitment to EVs.

Given we had a difference of opinion over the interior of the new Seat Leon (I think?), I have decided that you and I have *very* different tastes indeed - I don't like that Soul at all, boxy hideous monstrosity to me - sorry :)

Absolutely the commitment to EVs is a very good thing, but why not do it on a model that is selling well? The Cee'd maybe, or even the Sportage. The only way to make an EV something other than a novelty knob extension is to make it look like something other than a novelty knob extension!

All IMHO of course :)

The mk2 Soul looks fine to me, and being a bigger new design it's easier to build in an EV option from the start rather than figure out how to squeeze it in to an existing car.

The Nissan Leaf is truly one of the most ugly sights I've ever seen on the road (besides the SSanyong Rodius)  :x

Thanks for bumping the thread to share that wisdom with us. :wonder:

Just read through it all thanks to the bump! Did anything happen with the Nismo kit in the end?

It's at work, in boxes on a shelf...

The only Nismo LEAF kit outside Japan apparently.
