loosing coolant

Featured Replies

My vrs has been loosing some coolant since I got it. I also noticed it using a little oil. There is no oil in the coolant or coolant in the oil. I cant see any patches of coolant/water under the car when I park it but the coolant is 90% water so it may not show up on the yard.

Its not overheating when driving, the interior heater is working perfect, car is driving well with no smoke or loss of power.

Am I looking at a headgasket replacement??

Check your water. If a HG has gone you get a milky deposit on the cap.

It's an MG pic but the deposit is the same:

Nothing like that on the oil or water cap..

Check where the heater pipes go through the bulkhead, sometimes they corrode and then drip onto the exhaust pipe, thus leaving no tell tale signs.

I have read about oil coolers failing on some other vag cars. Anyone experience this?

10% ANTI FREEZE in this weather .No flame intended, but it's the head( and that gasket) above the shoulders you might want to look at . And ask if running with this level of antofreeze is sensible. It might be worth a look under the bonnet for leaks with engine hot and running . I wouldn't think a "sniff tester " would be expensive, to elimate a HG. iF SO -IT'S LOOK FOR LEAKS.

Surprised how many skodas have the same issue of losing coolant either it be the hg or pipes or something else??

I have the same problem I'm too losing coolant still not got to the source if the problem but I suspect it's the water pump.

Have you had you water pump and timing belt changed??

Im only after buying the car. I have a timing belt and waterpump to go in so wasnt going to drain it to put in fresh coolant. Anyway its not freezing here!!

As above I have one ready to fit as soon as my mechanic has the time to do it. I will get him to look over it for leaks at the same time
