25k

Featured Replies

Now if you had 25k to spend what would you get ? The thing is wifey has said " when we flog house and I loose 3-4 stone you can buy your second car! :) " so I was going to look for a 4x4 but I've changed my mind , so my shopping list is as follows all diesels :)

1. Range rover evouge (used)

2. Jaguar xf(used)

3. BMW 5 series(used)

4 skoda superb L&K combi (new)

5 Octavia combi L&K (new) when they make it ?

First thing I have to do is loose the weight 4 stones will take me about 12 months I think, so by then the xj will be on the list

I first read it that you wife had to lose the weight.

I was thinking "he's brave!" :giggle:

There have been a couple of very nice E-Class Merc convertibles for £26k at motorpoint recently which have been really tempting me.

I fancy a convertible, and of the full size ones that appeals more than an A5 or 3 series.

Top spec 4x4 Yeti loading with extras.

I couldn't find anything else under £40k I preferred, but that is based on what I need a car to do and the image it gives out.

I had that choice last year and went for a new Yeti! I had wondered about a used XF but the running costs put that out of the, er, running. A Defender was also considered, but as comfortable family transport it doesn't quite fit the bill.

From your list I'd put the Superb as first choice with the Octy a close second. I was really tempted by the Superb in the showroom when I went in to order the Yeti, but had decided I wanted something a little shorter and more manoeuvrable than our old Mk 1 Octy estate and the Superb was longer still. Gorgeous interior though.

There might be an Octavia MkIII 4x4 by the time you lose it :)

@ silver she would take me out and shoot me lol

@ meg that's why I'd go for a used one couple years old

@ dr zoigburg not sure on the merc ? There is a new one out which I like

@ a yeti really ? I just miss my superb 2 and I like a big comfy car , so the yeti I like but doesn't give the kudos of the L&K superb

@dgb400 I'd go for the 2.2 diesel so running cost would be minimal , I think ?

That's what I was thinking but no news on the L&K being done in it ?

There seems to be a huge amount of low mileage XFs on autotrader. Far more than I'd expect.

I wonder why?

New facelift out ?

The top spec Yeti is for people that like the Superb, but don't want to drive something 5m long and prefer sitting up a bit. :)

The Superb has Kudos?

It's not an Audi/BMW/Merc/Jag/Evoque. Buy one of these if you care what people think, even a cheapo one for the badge.

The point (for me) of the Superb is that it's better than some of those but it doesn't shout about it.

Richard totally I agree " the superb" that's why it's on the list but would be the L&K model its glorious, the octy would in fact be a better option really but they don't make L&K in it yet mk3 , chances are it very well might bethe supa

Supercharged XJR.

And change for something reliable but dull.

For a second car for weekends and highdays with 25K to blow I would be tempted with a Maserati 4200 or Gransport.

£25k for weekends would see me in an escort cozzie with less than 20k in clock and completely concourse standard... But if it has to be driven more often it would be a Audi a5 3.0tdi Quattro dsg for me I have a real soft spot for them and they really do look good and drive well :)

B7 RS4 Avant and some change.

R36 estate and a few grand more change.

B5 RS4 and even more change.

B7 RS4

It's one thing having 25k to spend on a car, you've then got to run & maintain said car.

I interviewed an ex owner the other day. The electrics kept on draining the battery. I'm not sure he drove it very much though.

After 3 times of being let down, he changed back to an X type.

IF it was me, I'd have an XF as first choice followed by a Superb.

Aside from the XF being a lovely looking car, it's the interior I like and I don't think the Superb can quite match it.

This was my first thought however the L&K superb is slightly better

BMW 5 series, auto, 3.0 diesel engine. Lush.

Before spending time thinking of an Evoque, i would go and drive one.

Personally i would just have the Freelander 2 instead.

You might find a Subaru XV at a good price by the time you are buying.

I found the Lineartronic (CVT) surprisingly entertaining to drive and comfortable, and it suited me more than the Yeti with DSG.

I have not lost that 4 stone yet, so need the seats that work for my bulk.
