Fabia Vrs SE BLT engine stalled!

Featured Replies

Well me Fabia decided to stop up yesterday.

was coming down the motorway and when went to change up to 6th gear and hit the accelerator there was no response.

when clutched it, it cut out and wont start since.

when take the oil filler cap off and turn it over its sending smoke up through the cap.

it will turn over but wont start at all.

Anyone with any ideas as to what might have happened would be greatly appreciated.

is it serviced regular? when was the fuel filter changed?

may be worth plugging it in to vag com?

done a full service on it 3k miles ago and changed every filter. serviced on the button every 10k says the history book.

Turbo, possibly

Get it up in the air, take the intake pipe off it and get a look at the blades mate

Even if the turbo is kaput it should still turn over?

No if the impellor explodes it can block the turbo completely, stopping air coming to the engine via the air filter -> turbo -> pipe work -> intercooler route. So it wouldn't start.

Disconnect the boost pipe on the egr, see if it'll fire then

Was going to recommend the same as josh. Try taking the egr valve pipe off and see if it'll fire up then.

What mileage is engine/turbo?

  • Author

121000 miles and still on its original turbo.

had the egr pipe off and oil filler cap and it started first tough of the key.

goin over now to take exhaust off and see whats happened

It's ya turbo mate, I'd put money on it, likely to be the cold side so check there too even if the exhaust side looks ok

think your right.

took exhaust side off and the play in the shaft is bad.

would it block that bad and send the fumes back up the rocker cover?

Mine died while accelarting up a hill a few miles from home.

Cut out completely and refused to start again.

As soon as we popped a boost pipe off and turned it over it fired up.

Meaning blocked air flow somewhere.

Upon pulling everything apart here is what my impeller looked like:

Exhaust side was unharmed or I'd have been looking at a new cat as well.

Wiped all the bits out of the pipe work and intercooler, banged a new turbo on and has been running perfectly ever since.

Yeah, similar thing happened to pastyboy recently mate

Edit - he posted!

Well my turbo is out and what a mess it is.

It broke the shaft and the impellor wheel is in half.

All the fins are missing and bits of the wheel.

Dont know if it has anymore damage done to the engine.

Have to drop the sump and check the oil pump gauze first
