Newbie Felicia owner needs a voltage regulator

Featured Replies

My first post.

Hi all as the happy new owner of a low mileage '99 1.3 MPI Felicia Magic my delight is tempered slightly by my urgently needing a voltage regulator.

Any suggested sources please?

I'll post pics of the car up later

Thanks all

Nick

I really really wish I'd seen this before I shelled 140 quid out for a new alternator last weekend

thanks Chef1, that's really useful. I'll save that ebay seller,

I talked to my local(ish Skoda) dealer late this afternoon, and he's getting me one for the weekend - luckily for Felicia's with power steering they're available separately. For the smaller output alternator it's the whole alternator only from a main dealer. My nice local parts man is giving me trade price simply because he thinks it's nice to see someone running and caring for an older model! Result!

^ Another plus point for Felly ownership

Felicia gave up the ghost this morning in the middle of Portsmouth rush hour. The AA man diagnosed alternator problems and suggested taking to a garage for a new alternator...but I decided I could probably do that job myself so borrowed a fresh battery from him to get home.

Having looked on here and then removed the regulator/brush holder I'm pretty sure its the culprit (one of the brushes fell out whilst I was looking at it)

So hopefully a replacement from ebay will do the trick and save £££s over a new alternator.

And it did.

I know this is an old thread but I'm looking for information about a fault which I think might be a problem with the regulator.

My Felicia L 1999 is giving me grief after being a beaut for the last 5 years, just paid insurance, tax, MOT and for a new exhaust (second time) so it would do it now after all that money!

Driving today as I accelerate the wipers go nuts as well as the radio going off and the lights on my dash getting brighter (so I'm assuming I am flashing my lights at everyone too?) It's a bit rubbish seen as it's hammering down and dark whenever I'm driving!

Any ideas people? Just wondered if you guys had the same problem before finding it was the regulator?  Cheers, Laur

Does the windscreen leak at all? It's fairly common for the fusebox to get damp from a leaky windscreen which makes it exhibit all sorts of electrical gremlins.

It does sound like the regulator. Our old 1.3 was doing the same thing, like a power surge where everything would get faster or brighter for a few seconds and then calm down again. The regulator is only about £10 anyway so it's worth trying.

But as Tom says the screens are prone to leaking so that's easy to check first but I'd still suspect the regulator.

I had the wind screen replaced a couple of years ago so hoping it's not that, the regulator was getting really hot so will replace that for a few quid and keep my fingers crossed! cheers guys!

I've just had to re seal my windscreen. The seal is fine but there's a little patch of rust at the base on the passenger side. You have to remove the plastic scuttle panel, scrape the rust out and put a little silicon sealer in. I took a few pictures so I'll put a little guide up at some point but you can check really easily by opening the fuse box in the passenger footwell and putting your hand up inside. There's some foam soundproofing up there that soaks up the water.

It still sounds like the regulator to me but it'll take about two minutes and cost nothing to check the fusebox and then you can discount it. Always start with the easiest/cheapest thing first!

Would like to see that guide Yossarian G. My Felicia is leaking into the driver's footwell.

I replaced a voltage regulator last year. I got the part direct from Skoda UK, but it was £30 so that eBay seller is much cheaper.

Hi Rob, I have just posted it in the technical guides,

Cheers, Yoss
