boost surging after re-map

Featured Replies

hi guys/gals

ive been having boost surging as a result of my new map. Now for the time being i wont mention the companys name to stop a possile witch hunt or bitch fest but im told by u guys that there one of the better mappers in the UK.

now its a 2002 mk1 octavia 1.8t 4X4 with 85k on the clock with no other mods except the map.

now before the map i had no boost surgings or stutters and always run it on V-power and service every 5K.

my boost gauge is confirming the boost surge as well.

peek boost is @ 18psi/1.24Bar.

some say check your N75 valve and MAF and all are working well with no fault codes.

now i know some of u guys were suffering from this problem but wanted to know if it was ever cured? or what is causing the problem?

as always your help very much appricated.

cheers

How do you mean surge though? On light partial throttle? Only from cold? Any of these? Normally even though the car was running well beforehand the map can exaggerate even the smallest fault that was there, not saying its not the map, but there are many things 1.8ts suffer from,

sorry should of been more clear.

on full throttle from about 3K onwards theres boost up...then loosing boost....then boost up....then loosing boost e.t.c right to the limiter

dont give it full throttle when cold, only once its up to temp.

cant say theres surging on partial throttle.

oh and i forgot to mention its got a brand new oem DV.

i did contact the mapper but got the typical "its your car not our map" answer which as you can imagine didnt help much at all.

think my old scooby did this but this was partial throttle @70mph onwards in 5th on motorways.

From that a likely candidate would be the n249 have a look at the bypass for it, it's an easy way to rule it out at least, n249 controls the Opening of the dv, which coming on and off boost sound like what's happening

but if i had a problem with the n249 i would see surging on my boost gauge with the standard cars map?

Perhaps it's the dv not being strong enough and you need an uprated one?

well from what ive been reading on here SHARK had this problem with the mk1 octavia vRS which is the same motor and turbo as mine and cure it by using a VW golf 150 software as the base of the map.

No we don't, we fixed it by fixing the problem in the software properly, it was another company who use the Golf software to stop the surge, which is actually the same software that an Octavia 4x4 comes with as standard. Therefore I'd be very surprised if the surge you have is as a result of the map, given that the version of software on your car is the one that's used to "fix" the problem by one of the 1.8T tuners.

Hope that helps.

Was that the R-teks suggestion trick #256 in the "have you got boost surge after remap" post?

That reminds me I need to get mine sorted and get booked in at shark.

Do u have the same problem?

Big Lee has an Octavia vRS, which uses different software. That's the version of software that a number of cars had problems with, which as far as I know have generally been sorted out (apart from Lee's because he hasn't had chance to pop back yet).

+1 for a cheap plastic dv not being man enough.

on a side note: surge as in surge line on a compressor map? From what i understand, OP is more about boost leak right?

Well if my DV isn't strong enough, which is brad new I may add then why doesn't the Mk1 S3 suffer this problem? As there well over the bhp I'm runing.

They do run a lot lower boost though around .8 of a bar if I remember correctly

I had a similar problem with my 4x4 but not until i had the remap for a couple of years. Did the usual N75 MAF etc. Finally checked the fuel pressure and it seemed ok but I picked up a S/H fuel pump and it was cured. The 4x4 pump is different as it drives the N/S pick up as well, so whether it works harder and can't keep up so well with the increased demand. Anyway, my 2p worth

Had the same problem on mine. Changed the n75 valve and all cured. I'd bet money on it being that.

your oem dv, stock location? did you install it the regular way round? have you tried the 'other way round'?

Cheap plastic dv's are the new gods.

More than enough for the job according to some.

Check out the thread I posted a few days back if you want more info.

stop trolling dude! lol

on a serious note, when working, and not damaged, they are meant to work just as well!

well now heres a thing!! bought a new N75 valve as there not to expensive and maybe my mates one could of been slugy or what not.

this has now made the surge less obvious but its still there as you can see it in the boost gague and feel it every so slightly.

i havent changed the location of my oem DV, any point to?

and the fuel pump may be some thing to look into as my old scooby and most pre hawk eye versions needed the Wallboro fuel pump upgrade after a remap as the standard one wasnt too strong.....cheers for all the imput guys.

gotta get this nailed one way or another.

one last thing my local Skoda garrage did say that the 4x4 has a KO3 turbo where as the vRS one has a KO3S turbo and that 1.24 BAR is too much for my KO3 turbo??? thought this was starnge so spoke to my mate in the parts dept and asked for the part numbers on both turbos and long and behold they BOTH have the same part number so must be the same????

cheers
